Career Task 2

Leonardo Stone is one of the hottest faces on the market for commercial advertising now. After all, dashing good looks and a, um, "exciting" personality are exactly what fans crave, and Leo always delivers on both.

After getting drafted in the third round of the SSL draft, companies became aware of Stone’s existence. However, they were unwilling to put forth any real substantial financial compensation for him so Stone never even acted in a commercial. However, after launching himself into the public eye with some famous TMZ segments, Leo suddenly became the talk of the town and was one of the more popular soccer athletes in the world. And subsequently, he has started to receive offers for brand sponsorships from a large variety of companies. From Nike to L’Oreal, Stone had a lot of opportunities made for himself. However, it wasn’t until one specific brand reached out where he finally gave in and decided to be a brand ambassador.

The brand in question? Mars Incorporated. The company most well known for M&Ms (though they also produce a variety of other types of chocolate bars) decided that Leonardo would be a perfect fit to be their brand ambassador after Stone famously broke the Guinness World Record for most peanut M&Ms consumed in 5 minutes while on instagram live this past offseason.

Luckily for Mars, Stone was happy to represent one of his favorite candies. Though he and the marketing department did clash on their initial ideas for how to best market it (Leo reportedly wanted to just try and break his record again…), they came to a happy conclusion by the time filming for the commercial started to begin. The commercial would start like a normal M&M commercial, showcasing the delicious chocolate with the typical zoom-ins; however with a slight change. The camera would zoom into the white of the M on the candy, going white, before zooming out again to show Leonardo Stone. But this wasn’t any normal Leo Stone, he is very shiny, with hair flowing in the wind, and he is wearing only M&Ms. The marketing department was able to create a wearable pair of shorts for Stone made using M&Ms, and he was told to just sit still and look pretty. The commercial soon would go viral over social media as fans gawked at Stone and the fashion choice for the commercial, ultimately leading to a massive success for both the popularity of Stone, and Mars chocolate.

Port Royal Rum Company's Recent Export!

Port Royal Rum Company announces Reece Munro as its newest global ambassador, bringing together two names with deep roots in Kingston.

We here at Port Royal Rum Company are excited to announce that renowned academy alumni, Reece Munro, as its newest global brand ambassador. In a partnership that sees the Scottish star reconnect with a place that impacted in his journey both on and off the pitch tremendously.

For Munro, Kingston is far more than just another city in the Caribbean.

His relationship with Port Royal FC stretches all the way back to his formative years, when he spent a season within the club's academy. Though his playing career would eventually take him far beyond Jamaica, when he signed for the historical organisation, Schwarzwälder Fußballverein, and would see him joining their Minor Team, Montreal United. Munro would later return to Port Royal in a very different capacity, spending a further season as manager of the club's academy side and helping guide the next generation of players hoping to make the same leap he once had.

It is that connection that caught the attention of the deep rooted, family run, Port Royal Rum Company.

Founded on the shores of Kingston Harbour, the Jamaican distiller has built its identity around the history, character and unmistakable spirit of Port Royal. Now the company believes that with the backing of Munro that he represents an opportunity to take that identity to an increasingly global audience.

"Reece has travelled the world throughout his time in the SSL, but he's never forgotten the places that helped shape him," a Port Royal Rum Company spokesperson said.

"His connection to Port Royal isn't manufactured for a campaign. He wore the colours here. He developed here. Then he came back and gave his experience to the next generation guiding them to an admirable 2nd places league finish. That's exactly the kind of person we want representing our name."

The multi-year agreement will see Munro feature prominently in Port Royal Rum Company's international advertising, with campaigns planned across Jamaica and selected overseas markets.

However, both sides have stressed that the partnership will extend beyond traditional advertising.

Munro is expected to work alongside the company on initiatives supporting grassroots and academy football in Kingston, with Port Royal FC's academy naturally occupying a special place in our hearts and within those plans.

Munro has outspokenly made it known that this was one of the major reasons why he signed the agreement.

"Port Royal gave me an opportunity as a hungry youngster and then trusted me with their young players as a manager," Munro said following the announcement.

"I've got memories here that have nothing to do with trophies or individual achievements. It's the people, the club and Kingston itself. When the opportunity came up to represent a company carrying the Port Royal name, the thought of passing it up was simply unfathomable to me."

We reached out to their CEO who had this to say, “All of us attached to the company and beyond are inexplicably excited at having Reece on board with us and we cannot wait to see how his career is going to develop. I have personally seen him play in person and he gives that spark inside you that something is going to happen, that same spark I have when I see his name amongst our ambassadors”

#2 Rookie Season

When I was told I had my first national sponsorship offer, I genuinely thought someone was winding me up. I’ve obviously had a few local things before from the pubs and clubs and people wanting to send things over, but this was completely different. My first proper national sponsorship is with JD Sports.
For me it actually makes sense as well, because football and trainers have basically been two things I’ve spent stupid amounts of money on my whole life. Even when I probably shouldnt of been buying another pair especially those David Beckham Adidas Predators with the silly strap that went under the boot ?. Growing up in Nottingham you see JD everywhere next to all the bookies and Mcdonalds ofc lol! and it was always one of them shops you’d go into even if you had no money just to look around.

The deal means I’ll be working with them across a few campaigns this season, mainly around football, streetwear and some of their new releases. I’ll also be doing a couple of appearances in stores around the country and hopefully one back home in Nottingham, which would probably be the best one for me personally.
They’ve also given me my own little collection of stuff to wear for travelling to games and media days, which I cant lie is probably one of the best parts of the whole thing. Free trainers is something I could definitely get used to the Cairo special range that is coming out is absolutely on point.
I never really expected sponsorships or anything like this when I started playing, you just want to play football and see how far you can go with it. So getting something like this going into my third season feels pretty mad.
Big thanks to everyone at JD for putting the trust in me and wanting me involved. Hopefully its the first of a few things we can do together.
Although Laura has already told me the last thing this house needs is even more trainers, so we’ll see how long the sponsorship lasts once the boxes start turning up ?

Career Task 2

Agent: “Energy Drink Company?“
I don’t even drink this stuff, nor would I advertise it.

Agent: “Clothing brand?”
Where do they produce?
Agent: “Bangladesh”

Agent: “Oil Company from Venezuela, your home country?”
See that is what I am searching for. Local companies that like to support me.

What do they offer?
Agent: “500.000$ per Assist.”
Do they know?
Agent: “They even wrote “Since you are on of the best assist givers […]” so they seem to know”
But that is so much money for keeping on doing the thing I am best at. Anything else that I have to do?
Agent: “The usual. Attend some of their events, although they said they will fly you out to them in a private Je-“
IN A PRIVATE JET? Just to attend some of their Events? And getting paid for it. Why have we not looked earlier into this offer?
Agent: “They only just offered after you were awarded the Minor League Rookie of the Year, while having the 3rd most assists in the Minor League.”
Wow that is a Life changing offer. Accept right now.
Agent: “But you heard that it’s an Oil Company?”
Yes. And you know what Venezuela is known for? Oil.
Agent: “But this will with a high chance be criticized by the media because Oil companies normally are in the critique for their harm for the nature and this will drag you into this critique.”
Nobody is going to hate me for getting sponsored by a company that is literally only supporting an Athlete from their country.
Agent: “You do know that the Organization you play for is based in Reykjavik, Iceland, which gets actively hurt by the damage done to nature, which this company among other things is part of. And the Affiliate Team is based in Auckland, New Zealand which is even closer to going under the sea Level because of climate change?”
They will understand that this is my way of representing my country on the international stage.

Schreckenskammer Kölsch Sponsorship

Towards the tail end of last season, I was approached by one of the more well known local breweries from my hometown, I was a bit suprised since I was playing abroad in Montreal at the moment, but it does make sense considering I was born in Cologne and I am playing for a german organization afterall. Schreckenskammer were not the first suitors to approach me. A few others had tried but most of them came from the betting sector, something I didn't want as my first sponsor.

Kölsch, a local style of beer, which can only be brewed in the city of cologne, is the go to drink in Cologne. You have a cold one with the lads, you get a Kölsch. Night out in the pubs, Kölsch. Need a refreshment in the club... you get the gist of it. Although alcohol might not be the perfect first sponsorship, this really felt like a personal fit.

After some swift negotiations, I signed the contract and things went on the way. Photoshoot followed soon after the signing, Schreckenskammer started to plan the whole campaign.

There it was: "The new face of Schreckenskammer Kölsch, Christopher Bergmann. Home grown, local, a rising star, ready to cement himself at the very top, just like we are."

Schreckenskammer has been very outspoken about how happy they are to have secured a future star like Bergmann for their brand. Connecting a possible icon of the future for the city of cologne with their brand of Kölsch. Bergmann has also talked about this sponsorship with high praises. Showing himself pleased with the results and the campaign. It appears the signed deal is a multiyear sponsorship deal which will tie Bergmann to the brand for the foreseeing future. There is no further information regarding the agreement between both parties.

What comes with playing in the SSL and becoming a superstar is a lot of sponsorship opportunities. When you get drafted 4th overall like João Mendes and perform the way he has in his first few seasons, you get some of the giants coming your way. With Mendes being Portuguese, there was one sponsorship that he's been eyeing ever since he got to the league. This was the one and only Super Bock beer, straight from the barrels and breweries of Portugal. While most new companies are pushing a healthier lifestyle with all these alternatives, Mendes wanted to stay close to his roots and those of his Portuguese people. When he heard Super Bock reached out to his agent, Mendes was super excited, and they were able to agree on terms rather quickly.

Mendes wanted to go with something that brought him back to his younger days, where he would sit with his father and grandfather and enjoy the refreshing taste of an ice-cold Super Bock after a long day at the farm. So for this first national sponsorship, they ran a commercial where Mendes was able to do just that with this family. This scene was set with all three Mendes men working on various tasks around the farm throughout the day, and it ended with everyone enjoying a nice cold beer, filled with laughter. When asked about his experience with Super Bock, he said: "I'm super grateful for Super Bock and the chance they've given me to create this masterpiece with my father and grandfather. I wanted to make something that was super relatable to all the Portuguese families around the country. It was very special to have my family alongside me."

The commercial was an instant hit with a ton of positive feedback on social media and a lot of interactions. There are already a few beer companies that wanted to partner with Mendes, but they were told no, as Mendes only wanted to work with Super Bock. A great success for the young midfielder!
