His 67.1% save percentage was only good enough for 6th in the league, and with only 8 teams at that time, that wasn’t very good. It turns out that his dream to be the best goalkeeper in the league was still a long way off, with stars appearing such as Pingu Nootazooki (who retired at the top after his first season), and the Inter-London star Tony Yeboah, who averaged a 6.89 game rating and conceded the 2nd fewest goals among the starting goalies.

Sterling used his poor showing in his rookie season to fuel his growth in the offseason, really trying to focus on making saves using appendages other than his head. Training to use his arms and hands was tough, but ultimately successful. Sterling attended a camp with the other goalies of the league to better learn how to be faster with his reflexes and make better decisions when goalkeeping, and as a result, made friends and rivalries across the league.

In his eyes, his greatest rival is the goalkeeper from Athenai, Jannik Andersen. Andersen also had a bit of a rough rookie season, but still finished just above Sterling in most stats, and he led the league in goals conceded with only 18 across the season. Sterling worked with Jannik at the training camp, and Sterling was able to see that Anderson would quickly become one of, if not the best goalkeeper in the league, and it pushed him to train harder. His lightning-fast reflexes and willingness to challenge players in 1-v-1s was something that Sterling could only dream of after just his rookie season, and it gave him something to aim at for the coming seasons. Sterling used the opportunity to study his rival, and work on his decision making and agility, putting extra focus into using his hands to make stops. The second season of the SSL better keep their eyes on Hollywood, as their goalkeeper has come to play.

APPROVED

Jay Bryzski Player Page
CPT#1

Honestly it was a rookie season to forget for Bryzski, he was picked up on waivers by Tokyo SC. Jay was confused as to why they would claim him as they already had an established RB. The manager told Bryzski that for one season he would be playing as a RM and while Jay has some experience at that position he definitely didn't feel comfortable playing it and it showed. Despite not feeling good about playing a position he didn't have much experience playing at Jay is a team player and try his best. On offense he found himself getting in to good positions but couldn't finish which is one of the reasons he was considered as a defender coming into the league. He came away from the season with no goals, no assists and one of the lowest average ratings of any active player, which did a lot to hurt his confidence going into next season. Joining the team while the season didn't help either as it took Bryzski time to get accumulated to the league and his new teammates. But it wasn't all doom and gloom for Jay in his rookie season, with 32% successful crossing percentage he was one of the better crossers in the league which was considered one of this strengths when he joined the league. Defensively is another place Jay started to show out with a 79% tackle percentage and 31 interceptions. Jay also showed how big of a motor he had coming in 30th among all players in distance covered, and showing he could work well in a pressing system and keep up with most wingers. The end of his rookie season also came with big news for Jay as he found out he'd be playing for a new team as he was taken the expansion draft and will now be suiting up for the newly created AS Paris but now he will be used in his natural RB spot. While he wasn't super happy to leave Toyko, he was determined to make good on his fresh start and show the league what he can do. Playing in his natural spot Jay is very excited to see what the next season brings for him.

@JaytheGreat

APPROVED

Besides the fact that he grew up in Germany and played in German leagues growing up, getting selected by a team in Seoul in the waivers was quite the change of scenery to say the least. Michael Muller knows absolutely nothing about Korea, so the language barrier and adjustment to going to South Korea was huge to say the least, it really took Michael Muller out of his element.

Onto playing for Seoul, it was quite a different game then one of which Michael was used to. He ended up appearing in 11 matches for Seoul, playing a total of 990 minutes, basically finishing every game he played for them. He cemented his way in the midfield, starting in all 11 matches, and never being a sub. Even though he had a language barrier with some of the coaches, he was able to prove his worth on the field, scoring once, and getting two assists to go along with an 85.6% on passing, and an 88.2% tackle success rate. He was also able to snag 22 interceptions in the midfield, something that he needs to work on as he continues to improve day in and day out for Seoul. He also did end up getting 2 yellow cards, to go along with 18 fouls, while also being called offsides 4 times.

All in all, for a rookie to jump into a team that wasn’t as great as they were last season, was something inspiring for Michael Muller. Being picked up in Seoul, he felt that he could bond with a lot of the other players as there were a lot of young guys that he could relate with especially since they were in a brand-new country. There were also a few older guys, but they didn’t really show around or really hit the pitch to work with the young guys as they attempted to bring some glory to Seoul. All in all, Michael Muller’s first season in Seoul was quite forgettable for most others watching the league and keeping track of stats, but it is a building block for Michael to keep pushing forward to attempt to become one of the best players in the league.

(375 words)

APPROVED

Although he had never kicked a ball in his life, as he typically spends every waking hour at the rink, he decided to give the league a go so he could break up the monotony of his hockey life.

Given his unorthodox entrance into the league, it's fair to say the expectations placed on him would be low. But life is not fair, and in fact the expectations were instead quite high. Visser generated much interest at the draft, and did not have to wait long to hear his name called when Tokyo picked him at 4th overall.

Since Tokyo had put so much faith in him with this selection, Visser started taking the league much more seriously, and spent way more time out on the pitch practicing for his team.

Now that we are a season removed from Visser's debut, it can be said that his rookie season was rather successful. Joining a Tokyo team that had low expectations heading into the season, given the poor results from the season prior, Visser felt determined to help right the ship. Although his first few games were really quite pathetic, including an embarrassing blunder leading to a goal against Seoul, he started to find a solid footing as the season progressed. By the halfway point, Visser had contributed a solid 5 assists for the team. After continued improvement, Visser earned his first player of the match performance in a 1-0 victory over Cairo City towards the end of the season.

Visser ultimately closed out his rookie season with 7 assists, good for 7th highest in the league. He completed a respectable 88% of his attempted passes, including 66 successful crosses (2nd most in the league) and 60 key passes for his team. His season culminated in one vote for rookie of the year, which is pretty decent for his first season in the sport.

Although Tokyo SC finished near the bottom of the standings, they had a lot to build on, with a great core heading into season 4. That core now includes the young Yannick Visser at RWB, who will hopefully continue to develop into the elite playmaker he showed flashes of being in his rookie season.

388 words

APPROVED

There are a lot of important learning experiences that can have a huge affect on the seasons that you play afterwards.

This was no different for Nico Fischer. The Swiss midfielder was selected 19th overall in the Season 3 draft by Athênai FC, and almost immediately slotted into the team’s starting lineup on the left wing. It was a difficult adjustment period for the youngster - he had to settle into his new team, in a new city and country he’d never lived in before and spending just about every day with a bunch of teammates he’d never met before. It was helpful for him to have a fellow Swiss player, Timo Reinmann, in the squad, but otherwise the language barrier was a surprisingly tough adjustment for someone who spoke both German and French fluently (although he was starting to learn English in preparation for his SSL career).

Luckily for Fischer, though, he was able to hit the ground running. His first competitive match came in the form of the Season 2 SSL Shield. Because Hollywood FC had done the double the previous year, the matchup that had usually been reserved for the league winner and the cup winner instead became the League- and Cup-winning Hollywood facing the side that had finished second place in the league in S2 - Athênai. In a shock upset, it was last year’s runners-up who took home the Shield - not the most prestigious trophy but a fantastic start to a career for a young player to be a part of a winning team at the first opportunity.

The rest of the season didn’t go quite as well, sadly. While Fischer did manage to start every single game for his club, and was also able to score two goals and notch two assists, it wasn’t enough to get him in the conversation for rookie of the year. More importantly, however, Athênai wasn’t quite able to follow up on their success at the start of the season - slipping to third place in the table below the league champions Inter London and the surprise expansion team Sydney City. They also fell in the quarterfinal of the cup to Hollywood, the eventual champions.

Now, with more changes made to the team and the league in general, Fischer will look to build on his experience in order to become a key player for the team and take them to greater heights in Season 4 and beyond.

CODE

456 words

APPROVED

Straight out of the Welsh domestic league and a few years recovered from her ACL tear in high school, there were many questions being asked about her ability and why Athenai had took her so high in the draft. Would she be able to perform at a high level having such a horrific injury in her past? Would her age be a problem with all of the young speed in the SSL? Well, the critics were silenced. Snooks brought experience of the Welsh leagues to the defense of Athenai. She made 17 appearances for "the Owls" and kicked it off with a penalty conversion in her first game. It helped that the goal came against Eirlys' personal rivals team Tokyo SC where the girl who injured her years ago, Helena Soderberg, played. Surprising everyone when she took control from the spot. A Centerback who could be penalties. Amazing. Snooks would go on to score 3 more penalties for Athenai, never missing during the season. Snooks finished the season with an average rating of 7.12. A 76% tackle ratio and had solidified herself in the backline for Athenai. Proving that even an older, more experienced player could come into the SSL and make an impact on a team.

Unfortunately, Athenai would be haunted be the SSL juggernaut that Hollywood FC had become. Coming in 2nd in the league and being knocked out in the SSL cup by Hollywood as well. It left a bitter taste in the teams mouth. But they would get a chance to win silverware next year starting with the Founders Shield since Hollywood had gone on to win the double.

Snooks was hungry for a trophy, but she had started to enjoy the travel around the world that being on an SSL team brought. She was able to sail on the beautiful Mediterranean Sea. Even invited her little brother Conner out for a bit. But she loved travelling all over the world. To Tokyo, and Rio, Montreal and Cairo. And the Greek passion for the game and fanbase was incredible to her. She loved the intensity they brought to home matches. It really was a great start to her career.

APPROVED

Thankfully, with the help of the experienced Ioannis Papastathopoulos, they formed a very good partnership and the combinations started to show that something good was gonna come on the 2nd half.
Watching Kofi applying pressure on the first pass against opponents was obvious, with his high aggression beginning to show (3 yellow cards and one penalty are the proof of that). Great defending against stronger sides meant that 1.03 successful tacklings per game (76% success) and 1.9 interception would show off his skills.
On the attacking side, due to the late starting of bringing results, meant that only two assists and eight goals would come from his efforts, although 11 chances created and 22 key passes might indicate Kofi involvement to the general Montreal attacking game.
On a different page, Kofi Anshah has consistently provided a good show for the viewers, with 34 dribbles, most of them on the opponents’ half, topping the graphs of the season for the combination of most successful and most in number dribbles.
Certainly, the best game of the S3 season for Kofi was the away game in Athens. Apart from starting the game with excellent passing (his season overall was 87.76, showing off good decision making), the second half found him pressing for the goal, ending up scoring his first and only hat-trick, mostly by taking advantage of Druids and Papastathopoulos excellent passing and his high Off the Ball movement.
Life is hard for the attackers of a team that finished mid-level of the table, thus the 6.86 rating was expected for the Ghanaian winger. The whole way the season went was obviously a revelation, as it meant that the position of the Left Back was probably more appropriate and would suit better to the stamina and the commitment of the young player.

(357words)

APPROVED

When asked about the honor of being named Captain heading into the season here is what Certified Problem had to say, "Even beyond all of the accolades and awards I have ever won in youth soccer - this is by far the most meaningful accomplishment of my young career. To have the trust of my teammates to award me this huge honor leaves me honestly speechless. I hope to go out there and earn it not just for myself and my teammates on the pitch, but also the Sydney FC faithful who have been cheering us on since Day One."

From a team perspective it is hard to complain with how Sydney City FC performed. They ended up finishing a surprising second in the league - not bad at all for a team that was making its debut season after being named one of the two expansion teams. And, for Certified Problem personally, it was also quite the good year. Let us look at some of the numbers for the Rookie Israeli Goalkeeper in Season 3:

-Certified Problem won a league high 18 games, this well outpaced any goalkeeper (it was 5 more than second place).

-Certified Problem finished third in the league with a save percentage of 75.4%, well behind the league leader but still somewhat impressive for a player so young.

-and, finally, Certified Problem ended up with 4 clean sheets on the year. For those who don't know soccer clean sheet means shutouts and preventing the other team from scoring.

All in all, the rookie season was quite kind to Mr. Certified Problem and the fans in Sydney are hopefully pleased with their keeper's progression both on and off the pitch. It will be interesting to see how his career progresses in the coming seasons.

358 words

APPROVED

Freddy would quickly prove himself as an integral part of Sydney’s historic expansion season in the Simulation Soccer League.
