PT/Academy task 3: Expansion team - Stratosphere7 - 2026-06-25
For my first PT article I thought I'd start easier. Let's talk about where I think the next great SSL expansion team should go.
As we all know, France has always been amongst the top producers of world-class soccer players with notable leagues: Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 amongst others as well as a top 3 National team in the current FIFA rankings.
France is a soccer crazed nation that is itching for more, yet between our minor and major league systems, we only have 1 team in France and that is AC Paris.
With a passionate history of soccer and an excellent geographical range to other European countries, France is a clear no-brainer to add a new expansion team, but this time, to the major league system.
A few possible locations that seem the most lucrative would be:
-Bordeaux
-Lyon
-Nantes
-Lille
There are of course, many countries that could benefit from a new team, but i think as a whole, the league could benefit from more viewership in France and the surrounding European countries. My current vote for a team would be FC Bordeaux to take the checkered place of The old Ligue 1 Bordeaux team that has recently relegated into almost nothing after dealing with financial crisis, leaving an open gap in a city that misses its high-class soccer.
