Northern Spain in the middle of June. A beautiful opportunity to have a first crack at the SSL Majors for Pruney. After a barrage of opportunities to show what he was work to the Reykjavic brass in North Shore. So Reykjavic opens season 26 of the Simulation Soccer League traveling away at FC Catalunya. In the head to head between these two clubs, Reykjavic holds a definitive lead with 29 wins to Catalunya's 5. However, for Pruney, the history of the head to head between the two clubs doesn't matter. This is the first time that he will step on the pitch alongside his new teammates in a big league game. Opportunities like that only come around once in a lifetime, better make the most of it.
As the match set's off, Reykjavik and Catalunya play off to an unusually slow pace. The game gets started and almost entirely from the jump, it seems that the fans are in for a defensive affair. Back and forth the two clubs go, covering lots of ground but not quite generating the offense that the two saw in their last head to head contest which showed the crowd more than 10 goals in an offensive breakout. Instead, this match, the first of Pruney's hopefully long SSL career, is going to go right down to the wire and the first team to make a mistake likely goes home with a loss.
Unfortunately for Reykjavik and Pruney, this coming out party isn't going to be one that they'll be eager to celebrate at the match's conclusion. Salazar splits the defense and sends Joga Bonito in all alone. Bonito manages to slip one by Chicken and all Pruney can do is stare down at his boots. He didn't have the pace to keep up with the play and it has landed his first career SSL game in a loss. Unfortunately, as stoppage time comes to an end, the damper has been put out on the rookies first contest.
With any luck there will be better days ahead for Pruney and his new teammates in Reykjavik. Unfortunately for today, that's going to have to wait until the club gets another opportunity to show better effort on their next time out.
