Deschamps week 1 - Stratosphere7 - 2026-06-30
After being picked up by the Athletico Medellin academy team earlier this week, Bastien Deschamps saw his first start in the teams second game of the season, facing off against Stockholm IK.
After a rather unexcitings first half by both teams, in the 83rd minute of game play, Stockholm sent a crossover from the corner and made quick work of it with a header beating Deschamps.
The game ended in a 1-0 loss for the newer Medellin club with Deschamps making 4 stops on 5 shots.
Although it was a loss of Deschamps and Medellin, its clear that with some more time on the practice pitch, Medellin could be a force to be reckoned with.
Medellin now sits 5th in the league after game 2 and will face the number 2 club PS Jakarta later this week.
From what ive seen, I think Deschamps has a bright future as long as he stays focused.
After the game, we caught up with Deschamps to ask him how he thought his first game went and he told us that he felt optimistic and confident in his play and his goal is to one day make the French national squad for a world cup appearance.
