Seoul refuse wooden spoon against Athenai - fathands3k - 2026-07-19
Seoul managed to give themselves some breathing room from the bottom of the table by registering a 2-0 win against basement dwellers Athenai FC. This win now has them a full 6 points clear and for the first time this season now closer to the team ahead of them rather than closer to the team behind.
Van Huntelrooy came up trumps with two superb goals to continue on Seoul's good form in recent weeks, with Montreal United the only team to defeat them in the past 4 games. Cairo City await them next and a win for Seoul could mean a finish in the mid table won't be beyond them with a defeat almost condemning them to the bottom 2 spots. It has been a real season of ups and downs for them with them thankfully in the midst of an upturn in results and performances, something the players will want to continue on.
While no-one expected Seoul to be threatening near the top of the table, they certainly didn't expect them to be near the bottom after such a slow start. Fans can only wonder what could of been if they hadn't only gotten 2 points from their first 6 fixtures before getting 7 in the next 4. Missed opportunities now look to be behind them and at the very least they are showing they aren't going to be a walkover the rest of the season.
