Bonnibel Bubblegum Shining in the Academy - PBubs900 - 2026-07-19
The Academy season is over halfway over at this point (god it is going by fast), and Stockholm is hanging in there in the midtable, looking to make a push to the top in the final 5 games of the season. While there have been ups and downs, the team is in good form as of late and few players in the Academy have shined more than Stockholm's striker Bonnibel Bubblegum. Bonnie was scoring at a pretty solid pace, not scoring every single game, but definitely emerging as the team's top scoring threat, causing some games to live or die by her performance and ability to put the ball in the back of the net.
Bubblegum's true breakthrough came in matchday 8 vs Adowa Accra, where she managed to complete a hat trick, leading the team to a 4-1 victory. The first of three goals came off of a patented header off of a beautiful cross from Captain Metalbeard, showcasing one of the striker's biggest strengths, her aerial and heading abilities. The second goal came when Bubblegum found herself open about 5 feet in front of the goal, on the receiving end of a perfect low cross from fellow striker Leif Janson. This goal was a complete tap in, so a lot of credit should go to Janson and the midfield for getting the ball to her in that position, but these types of sitters have not been guaranteed goals for Stockholm this season, so credit to Bubblegum for converting. The goal that completed the hat trick came off of another great pass from Janson, finding Bubblegum alone at the top of the box, who then stuck a beautiful one touch shot which glanced off of the left post and into the back of the net, a truly unsavable shot. 2 goals by Bubblegum assisted by Janson showing that the chemistry the two have been developing during training is starting to pay off. Bubblegum managed to score all three goals in different ways: a header, a tap in, and a screamer, showing her versatility as an attacker.
After matchday 9, Bubblegum finds herself atop the Academy goal leaderboard with 9, two goals clear of Tex Star's 7 in second place. Bubblegum also picked up her first assist of the season in matchday 9 off of a Janson goal (who also scored a hattrick in that match). It is Stockholm's hope that the two will keep up the torrid scoring pace and lead them to a late season push for the Academy title. Individually, Bubblegum hopes to stay atop the scoring charts and take home the honor of the Academy's most effective striker.
