The end of the season was coming up, and I took another chance to sit down with Kaapstad defender Kaz Okada, to get his thoughts on the end of his first professional season.
"Alright, so to start off, let's keep the conspiracy talk to a minimum," I told him as he settled down in his chair across from me.
"Trying to silence me right off the bat, I recognize what this is."
I moved on quickly.
"So, it looks like you have one match left this season, against Inter London. What do you think the key to winning that match will be?"
Surprisingly, he gave me an actual answer. It's easy to forget sometimes that he is actually a professional and not some odd theorist they let in the building.
"Main thing is to try and contain O'Neill and Mendes, their top two goal scorers. If we can do that, I think we'll have a good shot at getting the victory."
"The team has been doing pretty well down the stretch. What do you think has been leading you all in the right direction?"
He paused, considered, and did something that I'm surprised by, considering that he typically liked to talk himself up in these cases.
"Our offense has been on fire lately. They're putting the ball in the net and fighting to keep us in every game. It's been great to see."
Maybe he's growing after all.
