GRADED: Thunder Wraps up Academy - Quitolis - 2026-08-09
It has been 52 days since Thomas Thunder's first game as a member of the Port Royal Football Club. He sits to reflect on his experiences and how they have helped improve him on and off the field.
He has adapted really well to being away from him family and away from his home country. One of his first experiences here in the academy is that they did a masterful job at helping that transition, and now at the end of the journey, that did not change. They always had little touches to help the team feel a touch of home. They also knew that connecting with their teammate's heritages is a helpful cure alongside. The team has also had staff in place to aid with the emotional part of growing up. They do have a lot of team resources to aid, but they also know that mature and responsible players on the field starts far from it. They helped provide opportunities to learn the basics of loving alone. Opportunities to clean up the apartment. To cook some meals. To wash some laundry. Sure many of these services are provided to everyone on mass, but teaching these guys to do it themselves sometimes has proven to create better teammates on the field and in the locker room.
On the field, the growth Thomas felt was incredible. For the first time in his life he was challenged during games and in practice. He was given a lot of responsibility through their tactics as he was largely left alone on the left. The plan was to give him space and trust that he would use it to open up opportunities for the team. These tactics took some getting used to, but it started to be quite effective by the end. Thunder statistically ended with the second most assists and 9th most goals in the league, which was both satisfying and motivating. He was most proud of the stat he did lead the league in. Thunder had 17 Chances Created, which is a testament to their tactics, and how the coaches were able to get him into good opportunities.
Since the season has concluded, Thomas has chosen to remain in the Port Royal facilities as he awaits the upcoming draft. He will find time for a quick visit home, but he wants to stay focused and training as much as possible. The future is bright and he is quite excited to see where his journey is taking him next.
