S27 is finally starting - Leo Stone friendlies overview - PT - Frostbite - 2026-09-01
The S27 season is officially upon us, and with that comes a brand new season and opportunity for Leonardo Stone to make his mark on the league. While everyone has been watching him and his antics over the offseason, many were unsure how it would look in actuality. After all, Cairo did lose a few people to getting called up to Tokyo, and gained a new face in the starting 11 in Kairo Vox; yes, someone named Kairo is on Cairo, we’re cool like that. Anyways, because of these changes there is a question on if the team chemistry that has been building for the past season has been all for naught due to the offseason reset.
It wasn’t until Cairo played in their friendlies where we would be able to see how things have changed for the young team. Luckily, it appears that no steps have been lost, as Cairo won their first friendly in dominating fashion. The game finished 5-3, but it was more of a blowout than the score makes it appear. Cairo went 19/37 for their shots on target/shots, whereas the opponent Seoul only even attempted 11 shots (6 on target). The offense spearheaded by Leonardo appears to be quite potent this season. In this game, we saw new things from the often selfish Stone. While Stone did still score a goal in this game, he also was a key contributor for the offseason cohesion, making passes and picking up 2 assists for himself in his S27 debut. Stone would finish the game with 1 goal on 0.4 XG, 2 assists, 12.3 km run, and a very good 8.8 match rating. However, the second friendly game of the week would prove to not be quite as positive. Cairo would lose this one 1-4, and Stone played even worse than his rookie year. 0 XG, 0 G/A, and a very bad match rating of just 6.1. It will be very interesting to see which version of Stone we’re going to get this season; will it be the 8.8 match rating of an elite player? Or a 6.1 match rating cardio king? Only time will tell. I for one am very excited to get the ball rolling on this season and see how the team can do. Go Cairo!
