Academy Task 5: Anthony Privett's Debut - Pure Chaos - ggmeister - 2026-09-07
SSL Academy - Season 27, Matchday 4 saw one of the most ridiculous matches of the season. The highly awaited African derby saw Adowa Accra FC matched up against my Victoria Falls Eagles. Coming into the match, the Victoria Falls Eagles were sitting on 6 points through 3 matches, most notably coming off of a 5-2 win at home against PS Jakarta, who are currently second in the table. Adowa Accra FC, on the other hand, sat second to bottom in the academy table with a measly 1 point through three.
Seeing as it was my debut, I simply hoped to play a solid defensive game on the left side, with maybe a chance or two to get forward against what I perceived to be a weak team. Little did I know that I was in for an offensive slugfest. Within the first 3 minutes of the match, I had the ball at my feet sprinting up the left side of the pitch, bringing the ball all the way to the corner flag. I played it back to my teammate Byakko, who was able to beat his man and hit a striking ball into the back of the net. Just 10 minutes later, we found ourselves with a corner kick that was played in beautifully by Nwachukwu, finding Legend Jerry who fires a laser into the goal. 2-0, Victoria Falls. Unfortunately, in the 24th minute, we gave up an absolute scorcher of a goal from Adowa, bringing the scoreline back to 2-1.
In the 34th minute, Victoria Falls has earned another corner kick. Nwachukwu played a good ball in, which bounced around a few times before landing at my feet, roughly 20 feet out from goal. I decided this was going to be my moment, and struck the ball cleanly off my left foot. The ball ended up careening off the left post and into the net! I scored on my debut, bringing the score to 3-1 Victoria Falls. If you thought the game ended here.. you would be very wrong though. The teams went into halftime, but the action quickly returned.
Victoria Falls found another goal in the 47th minute, quickly giving my team a 3 goal cushion of a lead. I started to relax, knowing we had this game in the bag. This proved to be a naive error, as I committed a poorly timed tackle and received a yellow card in the 52nd minute. Nwachukwu ended up netting a goal in the 64th minute, bringing the scoreline to 5-1. Game OVER, right?
Adowa Accra would answer quickly, finding the back of the net in the 70th minute following the Nwachukwu goal. Turns out, Obi Wan Kenobi took that personally. In the 73rd minute after gaining possession, Kenobi, the Victoria Falls KEEPER, plays a booming ball over the top, route one style, to Legend Jerry, who finds himself a second goal, giving Kenobi his first assist of his career. 6-2 Victoria Falls.
Adowa Accra FC would come to find 2 more goals in the final 15 minutes of the match. The first came as a result of our defensive line getting caught a bit farther up the pitch than we should have been. In the 79th minute, I avoided a real scare of a moment when the referee blew for a penalty on a supposed foul I, Anthony Privett, committed in the box. Reminder; I'm already on a yellow. I furiously rushed over to the referee, who said he would take a closer look in VAR. Ultimately, the penalty call was reversed and I could live to see another day in the locker room. We did unfortunately concede a fourth goal in stoppage time on a fluke.
All in all, I would consider my debut a success. A goal, 7.7 player rating, and the most distance covered on the team. Those are the kind of numbers I wanted to come out with.
