Off Topic Bundesliga Analysis - Bergmau - 2026-09-30

It's Nations League time, while that in itself is interesting with Klopp taking over as the coach and trying out close to 50 players in 4 different matches, I would love to talk a bit about the Bundesliga. Who is playing below expectations, who is playing above so far.

While we are only four games in, its safe to say Augsburg and Freiburg are punching above their weightclass. Freiburgs opposition has been on the weaker end but third place, even points with Bayern Munich, has to feel good if you are a fan. Augsburg started strong too, managed to draw Leverkusen and fell of against Werder Bremen who are picking up a bit of form right now. Elversberg and Mainz can also be pleased with their start to their respective seasons, Mainz is in a similar spot to Freiburg having played weaker opponents, but Elversberg had a remarkable start, only loosing to Bayern Munich in close fashion and bagging three points against Leverkusen.

Now, let us take a look at the bottom of the table. As a Köln supporter, it fills me with joy to see Mönchengladbach sitting in last place with zero points out of their four games. Their schedule so far consisted of Elversberg, Mainz, Freiburg and Leipzig. All teams that are in the top half of the table so far, but with that being said, they would have like to have at least 6 points at this point in the season considering their usual results. Loosing against Elversberg and Mainz was rough. Next up is the Derby against Köln, after the Nations League break, which I am really looking forward to. Let's see how this plays out.
