With the SSL draft having only just concluded, many reactions are a bit too immediate to provide any sort of accuracy. Prospect reviews, however, are always valuable, and today we will focus on Lukas Weiß following his selection by Buenos Aires in the draft. The young German, known primarily in his career until now for his rather large build, was drafted in the 3rd round, pick number 34 and will look to make an immediate impact with his new club, looking to use his height to his advantage as a target forward and also capitalize on the strength of his left foot and finishing ability. Having played most of his career as a striker, and with his height having obvious advantages in that position, it seems very likely that he will continue to play in his advanced position, though many would say that, as a target forward, he likely would be better served as one of a duo of forwards, using his strong hold-up play to play a more technically gifted forward in. Despite that, Lukas is perfectly adept at scoring on his own, and despite his build demonstrates strong speed and acceleration. His technical skills, while not the strongest aspect of his game, have proven sufficient at every level the German has previously featured at. It will remain to be seen how the young forward adapts to a country that speaks primarily Spanish, a language which Weiß has no knowledge of, the footballing skills should translate just fine. While it will be quite a journey to adapt from a life in western Europe to one in South America, scouts believe he will transition well to the tactical needs of a club with the stature of Buenos Aires, and his ability to play deeper in the pitch when necessary may come up as well. Regardless, the depth of the draft means that every pick, even ones as late as the 3rd round, could become a club defining player.
