- diamond_ace - 2022-07-16 Tonight, the SSL officially expanded to include two additional teams: FC Kaapstad and Uniao Sao Paolo (except with tildes over the first two As). As with any expansion, there was an expansion draft held to fill the teams out somewhat, and each existing team lost two pieces to the expansion draft. Being a relatively new player, Wash was left exposed to selection, and could have been packing his bags for one of the two new teams (although strongly preferred to remain in Paris, but these things don't always go the way we want them to). The whole ordeal was relatively understandable, he didn't really have any complaints about having been left out of the protection list as the newest member of the team, and it was just the timing of the whole thing that was frustrating - spend a season with a certain group of players, you grow an attachment to them, and then to suddenly have to start from scratch in that bond and development with your teammates, it would have been a lot to adjust to. However, as it turns out, Wash had nothing to worry about. The expansion draft came and went, and he's still a Parisian. Whether the managers of the teams knew he'd rather stay on Paris, or whether they simply went a different direction, who knows - that's the type of thing that goes on behind closed doors, and he wasn't in the room where it happened. There is, of course, some level of sadness in saying goodbye to teammates Ayomide Ayodele and Radek Soboda, who did both end up selected (Ayodele to Sao Paolo and Soboda to Kaapstad) but the relief is palpable even through the goodbyes. Simply put, Wash has found his home with Paris, and is happy to be given the opportunity to remain there. Expansions have a tough road to climb, but the stability of a club that already has a roster (who admittedly had been an expansion themselves one season prior, although before he joined the team) was an appeal too great for our esteemed pilot. |
