Rumours have been swirling and it's now been officially confirmed: Budget Busquets has resigned as manager of CF Catalunya!
After 3 seasons at the helm and one SSL Cup to his name, Budget Busquets has decided to step down from his managerial duties and focus on his playing career. The 2 time Best XI recipient as been a mainstay for Catalunya during their entire history. Having left Athênai FC after S1, Budget Busquets and Tim Sinclair founded Club de Futbol Catalunya. Since then, Busquets has managed to bring an SSL Cup while keeping Catalunya fighting among the best in the league. Tim Sinclair stepped down midseason 3 and the Shield he intends to be his last match in a Catalunya jersey. Rumours are, he'll be head of the scout department and see it revamped with the new money pouring in for the latest expansion and reformatting of the league into two divisions. The supporters will feel bittersweet knowing their next match will be their last seeing Tim Sinclair, but will be happy to see him staying with the club as a backroom staff. Tim Sinclair will hope he can help Catalunya lift up the Shield in his final match and hang up his boots on a high. Having already brought an SSL Cup home to Catalunya, the supporters are excited at the prospect for more as they face Tokyo S.C. in the SSL Shield.
On his resignation, Busquets had some emotional words: "It was always in the cards to find a long-term replacement. I'm a player first and still have a long way to go at the top. Catalunya has solidified their position in the first division and it's time we get a full-time coach. I will prepare this team as best as I have been for the SSL Shield, but my replacement will be announced following the match. It took months to find the right person for the job and we think we've found them. I am grateful for the squad for putting their trust in me, but now it's time for us to elevate as a club. I'll always be an on field leader and plan on staying here until I hang up my boots. This is only the beginning."
It's a wonder who will replace Budget Busquets at the helm, but sources close to the club believe it will be someone internally rather than hiring someone unfamiliar with the club culture. Before exiting the press conference, Busquets had some final words: "I will always be a Catalan and CF Catalunya will always be my club. I hope to retire here and bring as much success to the supporters as possible. I truly believe this is only the beginning"
