- Otrebor13 - 2022-11-10 As a rookie playing in the SSL’s Division 1 is never an easy task, especially when you’re a centerback and you never take a game off. That’s exactly what’s happening with the Scarpetta brothers for Sydney FC. Roberto and his brother Claudio have slotted into the back line every single game this season, both division and cup matches. Playing against a lot of tough competition has definitely made the two improve quickly, and we are seeing a lot of growth from them. I have highlighted Sydney’s rise and struggles of the season so far in previous articles, so let me switch gears and take a look at this from an individual statistic point of view. Obviously, Sydney FC has struggled lately and sees themselves at the bottom of the Division 1 table, but that was to be expected. Because of this, they spend a lot of time in their defensive end and the Scarpetta brothers are hard at work for 90 minutes every game. When looking at some of the statistics, we can see the Scarpetta brothers are hard at work. Division 1 Individual Statistics: Key Headers: Robert Scarpetta (35) – 1st in Division 1 / Claudio Scarpetta (17) – 9th in Division 1 *Roberto Scarpetta has 12 more key headers than the 2nd best player Division 1 Key Tackles: Claudio Scarpetta (7) – 2nd in Division 1 / Roberto Scarpetta (4) – 6th in Division 1 Clearances: Roberto Scarpetta (239) – 1st in Division 1 / Claudio Scarpetta (148) 4th in Division 1 **Roberto Scarpetta has 84 more clearances than the 2nd best player in Division 1 When looking at the above statistics it’s pretty impressive to see a duo of rookies in Division 1 with those type of numbers. Sydney FC took a shot on claiming 2 waiver wire centerbacks to run their back line, but as of right now it seems as though the move has paid off. With Sydney likely heading for demotion into Division 2 next season, it will be interesting to see what the Scarpetta brothers can do in a lower division, with players a little closer to their skill level. - G2019 - 2022-11-10 You guys are killing it! |
