It's Christmas morning and K. Clamence's body is sore from a tough week of league and cup play. Sitting in his chair, he sips hot cocoa by his fireplace and listens to a holiday jazz playlist from Spotify. Last Christmas Clamence enjoyed his parents and friends visiting from out of town, but miracles aren't miracles if they occur like clockwork. But Clamence was content to know he'd have an off day to relax, rest, and recover.
Slowly falling asleep in his chair, Clamence heard his doorbell ring. He buzzed the stranger in, figuring no one could have malice on Christmas, but this assumption proved dangerous. As Clamence opened the door to see who would greet him, he felt the surprising sting of a snowball against his face.
"Gotcha!" a familiar voice declared.
As Clamence brushed the snow off his face and rubbed his eyes, his vision cleared up to see McGuirk letting himself in.
"I brought some KBS, new seasonal variety to enjoy!" McGuirk said, as though his gift was more than enough to forgive his assault.
Clamence thought about it for a split second and decided it was.
"Let me get the bottle opener from the kitchen, get cozy on the couch and I'll put in a VHS."
McGuirk sat down and Clamence walked into the kitchen. He opened the drawer to pull out the bottle opener, looked into the living room, and saw McGuirk on his phone, unaware of what was to come.
Clamence then quietly opened his freezer, pulled out a snowball from the night before, and put it behind his back.
"So what VHS were you -"
McGuirk's inquiry was cut off by a snowball making direct impact in his mouth.
