Montreal Sport News

Our Rayures managed to defy expectations and to the surprise of everyone lead the Division 2 in the Simulation Soccer League!

Lead by Schwarzwälder Fußballverein prodigy and loan Duncan Maxwell who was elected young captain at the start of this season, the team managed to avoid defeat for 4 games straight as of now (including one cup game), earning them first place with 7 points in the league.

And you cannot say that the Rayures were blessed by an easy schedule!

After tieing long tenured powerhouse Seoul FC in the first match of the season, MTL beat down on First Division relegation team Paris with a convincing 4-1 win.
The latest game also ended in a victory against Red Star Laos, a team that narrowly missed promotion in Season 11 before the refranchising of the SSL, closely missing the first two places and allowing MTL sister team SFV to promote to Division 1.
Laos is now in second place with 6 points, losing their first game against Montreal.

Now with the second relegated team coming for a visit, Inter London, Montreal will be able to make their ambitions clear in the first half of the season as they would have bested nearly all the teams that were touted favorites before the season started, leading to an easier schedule down the road.

In the cup the 0-0 draw against Cairo was not particularly exciting, but not a bad showing either as Cairo has proven to be the SFV/MTL kryptonite over the last couple of seasons.

Most contributing factor to this early success seem to be tactical adjustments of coach tomtommen and a strong defense, allowing just 3 goals in 4 games.
Offensively the victory vs Paris surely stands out, as the 4 goals spike the overall goals of MTL up to 7, which ties them with Inter London and is only trumped by RSL (9).

It will be interesting to see if this promising start can evolve into a sort of miracle run, as most probably no one predicted MTL to finish Top 3 before the season started.

Stay tuned for Updates!
