QSW: Champions Atletico Bid Farewell to Draft Class
Having claimed top spot for the academy season by a single point over Victoria Falls, the young heroes of Medellin quickly set their sights onto a new goal, the SSL draft. Given the year of success, it was no surprise there would be quite a few making the next step in their careers, and as expected on Sunday, plenty of the squad was highly prized. A summary of those taken is as follows;
Round 1 – Pick 2: Wang Zhihao
Round 1 – Pick 4: Nicolás Muñoz
Round 1 – Pick 6: Brick Wall Jr.
Round 2 – Pick 9: Sami Bouhoum
Round 2 – Pick 11: Lachlan Martinez
Round 2 – Pick 12: Rui Santiago Texeira
Round 2 – Pick 13: Lorenzo Vokovic
The three first rounders for Medellin were players that appeared in every single match for the squad over the course of the season, showing their value as core players on Atletico. Given their influence on all 18 results leading to a division victory, these players could be seen as hot commodities. In the second round, a few newer faces did well enough to impress during their shorter tenure in Medellin. With less games to show off their prowess, all four of the second round picks did enough to prove they are ready for the next level.
