Schenkinger quits captaincy - Shnitzl - 2024-10-06

Karl Schenkinger has been the captain of Schwarzwälder FV for several seasons now. He was on board when the franchise was still playing in Accra, and as a German he was one of the drivers behind the franchise's move to Germany. With the move, Schenkinger became more and more a leader on a young and unsuccesful squad, and he eventually took over the captain's armband.

Schenkinger gave it his all. He was always present in the locker room, voicing his opinion, celebrating wins, bemoaning losses. Times flew by, seasons came and went. A championship was celebrated, and it was undoubtedly the highlight of his career when he lifted the trophy as his home team's captain. A dream come true.

That was seasons ago, but it feels like ages to Schenkinger. He feels old. Outshined by the great, young talent surrounding him. He feels himself getting slower on the pitch, taking longer to overcome minor setbacks and injuries. Does he still have the right to lead this group? What makes him fit to be a captain when those around him seem to outperform him? Won't he just slow them down, rather than lead the way?

A decision has been made. After handing over the captain's armband earlier this year to his crazy keeper and assumed the role of his replacement, Karl Schenkinger will no longer be available for captaincy next year, stepping down from the honors permanently. He is confident that just like on the pitch, others will step up and fill in.
