The Multi-sport Athlete Balancing act - Chef Gagne - 2024-10-31

No one in their right mind would try to work in a kitchen and play a professional sport - let alone two professional sports- so it's a good thing Alexis "Chef" Gagne is far from right minded, and deeply proud of it. Chef's day to day is nothing short of insane. Despite his deeply refined palate, Chef knows better than to eat anything less than a diet of good, clean fuel. Every day starts with a cup of black coffee, a five mile run, at least 100 pushups, and a rich green smoothie spiked with a pair of raw duck eggs. There are baseball days and soccer days, but both of them involve a lot of balance and lateral training including side lunges, calf raises, and all of the yoga. He calls it the beautiful triad, the mirepoix of athleticism: strength, flexibility and nutrition. Following this strict routine is a 20 minute dip in the pool to clear the head a bit, and then it's time to work the schedule. Is he flying somewhere? This time of year, he's most likely in between matches for Medellin Atletico. Come baseball season, it gets way more complicated. If he has any kind of a gap, he'll fly back home to Louisiana to help out with the family restaurant. These are big dreams he's balancing, but he's got the grit to perform and make an impact everywhere he brings his talent.
