Academy Task 5: Assessing Stockholm IK - stevo - 2024-11-25

During this past weekend, the most recent crop of youth players (the backbone of what will be the S19 SSL Prospect Draft) has been assigned to their new respective SSL Academy teams.
German midfielder Cameron Millwall will be tasked to strengthen Stocklholm IK's defensive qualities. Stockholm has brought Millwall into their lines, in addition to left attacking midfielder Jake Morrison, centerback Aart de Trella and right midfielder Carolien Miedema. There has not been any notice yet if Stockholm will field any returning players from last season.

Looking at their squad, there is no doubt that the midfield will be Stockholm's strongest roster part by a far margin. They have assembled a solid group of wing players, while de Trella and Millwall are expected to anchor the defensive lineup. De Trella and Miedema should additionally profit from sharing the Dutch nationality. A reason for concern is that their most talented offensive player, Jake Morrison, has already been rumored to have departed Stockholm's training grounds. Morrison is a German compatriot of Cameron Millwall. Their attacking line however does have some room to improve, as there is no natural striker on the team currently.

Centerback Aart de Trella is a very physically gifted player who can also be deployed in the defensive midfield and as a striker. Quite quick on his feet, he is alright at marking and possesses the necessary bunny hops to be a force to be reckoned with in the box. He will need some time improving his mental as much as his technical abilities, but with the athletic basics set in place already that shouldn't take too much time for him. What sets him apart from other defenders is his already developed ability to put the ball into the back of the net: Especially within the ranks of the academy, expect de Trella to register the most scorer points out of all defense players. @trëlla

Left attacking midfielder Jake Morrison is another player with an interesting skillset, as he also has picked up experience at playing in the central midfield as well as a right wingback. Morrison is another athletic player but does sport more of a technical skillset. He can dribble his way out of certain trap situations and find the open team mate. He does need to work on his awareness as he barely gets to recognize open spaces to dive into. @WildfireMicro

On the right wing, Dutch midfielder Carolien Miedema is amongst the quickest of all Academy players. Very unselfish, Miedema always wants to make the decisive pass, looking to set up her offensive teammates in critical positions to score. She will need to round out her game a tad going forward, but is a player that scouts rave about in their reports. Miedema sacrifices her own stats in order for the team (and her teammates) to succeed. She can also be deployed as a right back and a right attacking midfielder. @LtForestPuppy

Last but not least, Cameron Millwall is a staunch defender that is most experienced playing either the defensive midfielder or centerback position. Not as physically advanced as most of his Academy class mates, Millwall is believed to however have a mental edge over his competitors. He will need to put in a lot of work in the weight room.

Tonight, Stockholm plays their first preseason game. It will be exciting to see these talents in SSL action for the first time!
