Beermann’s Captain Log #1 - Durodo - 2024-12-03

A new season was upon the SSL, and with a lot of new faces joining and old faces leaving for Schwarzwälder FV, there was also going to be a change of Captaincy at Montreal. A role that was always voted upon by the team members and for Season 18 that vote ended up being Beermann’s promotion to becoming the club’s Captain. After already having been Wang Zihao’s Vice Captain at the start of his SSL career, Erik now makes the move to lead the team of mostly rookies and inexperienced players.

The pre-season was just about as you’d expecte from a team that has seen a lot of changes in the last off-season. It was all about finding some sort of chemistry ahead of the Minor League start and with only a few days between the last pre-season game and the season opener vs Inter London, Beermann and his crew had a lot to work on. Work that seemed to have been a full success. The Canadian Team was on the same page right off the bat, with a little help from the London defense gifting them an early pentaly kick. But only a few minutes later Beermann’s long days working on his headers paid off handsomely by converting Pedersen’s corner to a quick 2-0 start for Montreal.

Outside of that it was a rather quiet game for Erik, only managing to find a target on 40% of his 5 attempted tackles. Quick and short passes did make him end up as the team’s #2 passer of the night and in the end the Canadian side managed to find a 4-1 victory over one of their toughest matchups historically – giving them a great result to build upon.
