Valentin Morgenstern to Join CA Buenos Aires Org. - Pythonic - 2025-01-20 BUENOS AIRES (AP) -- Another Simulation Soccer League draft has come and gone, and with it the members of the 19th draft class have found their new homes for the foreseeable future. Local SSL team CA Buenos Aires and their minor league affiliate Athenai had just two picks in the draft, but those one of those two picks may help transform either team's defense for seasons to come. Valentin Morgenstern, native of Graz, Austria, comes into the organization as a highly acclaimed central defender in a draft that was filled to the brim with them. In drafting Morgenstern they have strayed away from the typical vision of a central defender, though he might just be what they need to get themselves over the hump to win a league title in the future. Under the guidance of some of the team's more veteran central defenders, such as Athenai regular Henrik Lind and veteran David Brukspatron, Valentin may be able to get the mentorship that will help him transform his game and become one of the league's most dominant defenders. "It's exciting, really, even if I'm terrible at speaking both Spanish and Greek," Valentin told us with a laugh in an interview just after the draft. "You're joining something special and you know that they want you there for a while. That's why they used a pick on you. Other leagues it's you sign a contract, then you're on the team, but you don't usually get that experience as a lesser skilled or developing player. It's exciting, yeah." Morgenstern told us that he looks forward to working his way through CA Buenos Aires' farm system and becoming a star player for the organization. "It gives you a sense of value, too, like, 'wow, they picked me that high, over anyone else?', it gives you sort of a sense of loyalty. Or being in debt in some cases, haha." Morgenstern is set to start his Simulation Soccer League career with CA Buenos Aires' minor league affiliate Athenai FC in the upcoming season. The depth chart places him behind the oldest player in the league Henrik Lind, Bartholomew Lorequavius, and Stan Still. We will simply have to wait and see how he develops and if he makes the difference that he wants to, especially looking at a comeback from his Austrian Bundesliga failures. |
