The frustration of bad calls - SpiNz001 - 2025-01-26

Soccer, like any other sport, can be extremely exciting and amusing to watch. Other times it can be a miserable experience if one’s team is losing. That feeling can be further exacerbated by bad calls made by the referees. Some refs are notorious for their bad calls and there have been plenty of times where a game a team could have won was derailed by said calls. Before the introduction of camera reviews, the refs are essentially the only ones reviewing the plays in real time. Most frustration stems from the fact that most fans watch from the television and can see the plays from a bird’s eye view. Each play is seen from different angles by them and as a result, they can see when bad calls are made. Frustratingly enough, some bad calls are so obvious you do not even need to rewind. It sours the game and upsets fans and players alike as their chances for victory are further hindered by these negative interferences. However, in the SSL league, teams like União São Paulo can rest easy knowing that calls are handled better by the experienced referees. In fact, the league is among the best in terms of fair and accurate calls.
