Eirlys stared daggers across the tunnel. There she was. Ms. Goodie-two-shoes Helena Soderberg. Looks at that stupid smile Eirlys couldn’t believe it. How had she been able to get into the SSL. It felt like a lifetime ago but Eirlys had played against Helena in high school. Both in very
affluent private schools in the Berkshires and upstate New York. And some things were never forgiven, never forgotten. Helena had ended Eirlys’ high school career with a reckless challenge. Blew out her knee and even worse wasn’t even shown a yellow card. Helena’s school would go on to win the region’s championship. Eirlys sent back home to Wales and months of grueling rehab. Revenge would come. Eirlys now played for Athenai, Helena for Tokyo. The rivalry would be rebo-

Eirlys attacked Helena. The scuffle engulfed the tunnel with both players being pulled off each other. Somehow the game was allowed to continue and both players were given a very very stern warning that they would be watched in the match. Athenai dominated Tokyo that day. Eirlys even scored from the spot. Eirlys felt mildly better, but the fire still smoldered. She avoided Helena post match. Certainly smoothing the soccer tabloids back home in Wales will be keeping an eye on.

statement from Helena Söderberg’s agent:

Helena vehemently denies that she has ever done anything to Ms. Snooks that is forbidden by the rules of the game. It is clear that Ms. Snooks holds an unfounded grudge against Ms. Söderberg, and while it is regretful that this unfortunate incident took place, it is petty and patently unfair to blame your shortcomings on my client, who is utterly blameless in this instance. We will provide no further comment at this time.
