I try to never have incredibly high expectations for where I will land in a draft. In my first ever sim league draft, I thought I would be highly sought after, but I fell to the third round, which humbled me. For this past draft, I knew I had earned pretty well, and based on past drafts that I had checked out, I knew that CD’s were often valued pretty highly. Lastly, I think I give a good impression when scouted, as I like to answer scouting questions at length. With all of these factors combined, I graded myself as most likely a second rounder, with some potential as a first rounder if a team loved me. With this in mind, when I was drafted with the first pick of the second round, I was pretty proud of that draft spot. Not to mention, since Shanghai picked twice in a row, I pretty much could’ve just as easily been the last pick of the first round.
Now I’ll speak on my reaction to the location I was drafted to. I was highly interested in joining an expansion team, as I believed there was something really cool about being on the inaugural squad of a team. I had a really scouting conversation with North, Shanghai’s GM, so I wasn’t totally surprised I ended up there. What I was incredibly excited about was the rest of Shanghai’s draft class. I knew some of the users, and I knew them as total class acts that also earned really well. Homercrates is one of my favorite users in ISFL and is my GM over there, so I was pumped to reunite with him. I know Shanghai may not get a lot of wins in our first few seasons, but I can tell it’s gonna be an amazing time.
