Points Race - A Breakdown of the Academy Season - GHamss - 2025-06-09 The Academy season in S20 was made up of four teams playing 15 match days. It was an incredibly close season between three of the teams. One point separated first to third and goal differential had to be used as a tiebreaker to determine the league Champions, Sydney. Over the course of the season, 5 mini round robins took place as all four teams played each other. To get a sense of how the season went for each team, I looked at what each of these five mini squares looked like. First mini square (Match day 1-3) Atletico 1-2-0 Stockholm 1-1-1 Victoria 0-3-0 Sydney 0-2-1 Atletico and Stockholm started off the league by separating themselves from the group. After matchday 3, Atletico led the standings with 5 points, followed by Stockholm at 4, Victoria with 3 and Sydney with 2 points. Second mini square (Match day 4-6) Atletico 2-0-1 Stockholm 2-0-1 Victoria 0-0-3 Sydney 2-0-1 During the second mini square we started to see the separation of the top three teams from Victoria. Atletico, Stockholm and Sydney all earned 6 points while Victoria earned 0. That put Atletico at the top of the standings with 11 points, followed by Stockholm at 10, Sydney with 8 and Victoria with 3. Third mini square (Match day 7-9) Atletico 1-1-1 Stockholm 0-1-2 Victoria 1-1-1 Sydney 2-1-0 This was a relatively even square amongst the teams with Sydney making some ground on Atletico and Stockholm. Sydney earned 7 points during these three games while Atletico and Victoria earned 4, followed by Stockholm earning 1. Atletico remained atop the standings with 15 points. They weren’t alone this time though as Sydney tied them with 15 points. In third, Stockholm was at 11 while Victoria was at 7. Fourth mini square (Match day 10-12) Atletico 1-0-2 Stockholm 2-1-0 Victoria 1-0-2 Sydney 1-1-1 For the first time in the league, Atletico fell from the top. They would never get back. Stockholm had a rebound round earning 7 out of 9 points. Sydney was next with 4 points while Atletico and Victoria each earned 3. This put Sydney into first for the first time with 19 points. Atletico, and Stockholm, tied for second with 18 points. Victoria was at 10. Fifth (and final) mini square (Match day 13-15) Atletico 1-1-1 Stockholm 1-2-0 Victoria 0-2-1 Sydney 1-1-1 The fifth and final round saw an extremely close race continue to be neck and neck until the end. Sydney earned 4 points in the final mini square putting their final tally at 23 points. Earning 5 points put Stockholm at 23 for the season. While Atletico earned 4 to put them at 22. Victoria earned 2 points putting them at 12 points. A battle right to the end made the season that much more interesting. Even Victoria, who was out before the final couple of weeks played a role in determining who walked away as champions. |
