Reykjavik With An Inconsistent Start - Jiggy - 2025-07-06

The first five matches of the S21 campaign have been a bit of a roller coaster ride for Reykjavik United.

The club current sits in fourth place in the table and only three points back from Hollywood FC and Uniao Sao Paulo who share the top spot. Reykjavik has gotten to its current spot having posted a record of three wins and two losses.

It’s been a bit of feast of famine in getting to 3-2. Reykjavik leads all the SSL with 20 goals scored. But they are having remarkable trouble stopping other clubs from scoring against them, having given up 12 total goals so far this season, third most in all the majors. For perspective, Hollywood FC has given up just five goals; Sao Paulo just four; and CA Buenos Aires, who is also ahead of Reykjavik in the table, has given up just six.

The goals for tally is a bit skewed. Reykjavik defeated CF Catalunya 9-3 in match 3 of the season and defeated Tokyou S.C. 5-2 in match 5, comprising 14 of the 20 total goals in these two contests alone. Otherwise, Reykjavik has a 2-3 loss to Schwarzwalder FV, a 1-2 defeat to Hollywood FC, and a 3-2 win against Sao Paulo, a much more regular GF-to-GA showing.

There seems to be a bit of a lacking of consistency in play that will need to be righted if Reykjavik hopes to content once more for the Majors championship. Finding more of the types of chances they did in their two blowouts, while locking things down a bit more defensively, should improve their ability to consistently accumulate points in the table in the games to come.

Decent work here fella, inconsistent is the word I would use indeed.

I appreciate the effort into researching the stats, I think the article could've benefitted from being stretched out a little more to allow readers to digest the numbers.

Otherwise great work.
