Expansion Draft Anxieties for Sandro - gucci - 2025-07-27

It was a long morning in training as Krung Thep players fought Thailand's famous monsoon season and tore their practice pitch to shreds. After training, the gaffer sat the team down and explained to them that some hard decisions would be coming. The SSL would be expanding this upcoming season and with that process comes an expansion draft... and they won't be able to protect everyone. While he didn't get into any specifics beyond that, Sandro was having a hard time with keeping his mind from racing over the possibilities.

He had taken to Bangkok well he thought. It was a much more familiar feel than Sydney with markets in the street and the year round heat. Even the rainy season reminded him of home. If he was taken in the expansion draft, it would mean a fourth city in 3 years. While he knew that it isn't an abnormal feat for a professional footballer, he was hoping he'd be able to make Thailand his home a little longer before moving on. The idea of getting promoted to CD Tenochitlan in Mexico City appealed to him as well, and with an expansion draft, that could all go out the window.

Then Sandro thought a little deeper about his situation. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad after all. Right now in Tenochitlan, they have an excellent young right back who would be incredibly hard to unseat at the position, even if he did get the call up before his contract with Krung Thep is up. If not, would he continue on with the organization once he deal is up or look for a starting role in a top level team. After his big debut season in Krung Thep, that doesn't seem impossible, despite some of the other very talented right backs stuck in the second division. In an expansion team, perhaps he could compete for that role in the near future, or even immediately. It could be massive for his career.

He hadn't even thought about trades. What if the Tenochitlan organization looks to protect and trade some of their best prospects at positions where their future is sorted and stock up on picks to fill positions where they are lacking after the expansion draft? While Sandro knew he was getting ahead of himself, as he finished his shower and changed into his street clothes after practice, the possibilities wouldn't stop entering his head.

If he was left unprotected, where would he have to go? They hadn't made him aware of the locations of the new teams. Could it be somewhere isolated with extreme weather like Africa or Siberia? Or maybe somewhere he'd really like to go like a bustling European or South American city with great history in the game. Suddenly the anxiety faded and Sandro knew that he could trust in his destiny, and focus on his game and that everything would work out for him just the way it was supposed to in the end. Protected or not, he would rack up even bigger numbers next season on his path to greatness.

Pre draft jitters? I get that feeling.

This is a really good article, you've fleshed it out in such a manner that it's easy for the reader to grasp their imagination around it.
