S21 Rookie of the Year - gucci - 2025-09-24 It was the international break and Sandro had been waiting for this moment all season. No, he hadn’t been called up to represent South America, but he had received an invite to the minor division awards ceremony for season 21. As things stood, he already knew that he wouldn’t be leaving empty handed, as he had tied for the most assists in the division, so he already knew he’d be receiving the Golden Eye award. However, he knew there was an outside chance that he could break into the Team of the Season as well, and more importantly, he was squaring off against the Kaapstadt keeper for the Minor Division’s Rookie of the Year Award. This is what he’d really had his eye on since he was first drafted to CD Tenochtitlan. He wanted to have a debut season to remember in Krung Thep, and win or lose, that was exactly what happened. He boarded the team provided plane to Switzerland, his mind racing with visions of the moment they would call his name. Over the next several hours, he was too nervous to eat and had hydrated enough that he was up and down, back and forth to the jet’s lavatory the whole flight. When the flight finally arrived in Geneva, Sandro was met by league officials who ushered him to a car which would take him to his hotel to change and escort him on to the awards show. Sandro had now seen quite a few cities and countries around the world but was absolutely struck by the natural beauty in the clean streets of Geneva. He made sure to remind himself to buy tickets to bring his mother here in the offseason, she needed to see this for herself. Having scarcely ventured out of Northeast Brazil, it would be like walking around in a gringo movie for her. At the hotel. Sandro showered and changed into his suit before meeting his attaché in the lobby and proceeding to the awards show venue. When he arrived he was shocked with some of the faces he saw. He was there with the absolute best of the best from his division. Despite TotS being announced at the awards ceremony, only the individual award nominees were invited to the event. So it was a pretty exclusive group. When the awards ceremony began, they immediately announced the team of the season to a standing ovation from the crowd. Sandro had been named amongst the substitutes which still counted in his book, he received his plaque that night. Next came the golden eye, which Sandro accepted alongside two of his peers from Paris and Kaapstadt respectively. The golden boot, captured by Paris’s striker. Next was the big one: Rookie of the Year. Sandro knew he was the favorite by the oddsmakers, yet he was sweating from places he had never sweat from before. In this case it was his palms that were feeling it the most. The commissioner walked to the podium, the cameras focused on him and his opponent and the name was announced. It was Sandro , he’d done it. Rookie of the year. He accepted his third accolade of the night with a short speech that stretched his English skills to their limit. Ending it with a bit of Portuguese for his family watching back home in Brazil. He left the event with two trophies and a plaque, but most people would only notice the beaming smile. He knew it was just the beginning, but what a beginning it was. RE: S21 Rookie of the Year - DivogoJota - 2025-10-17 Well-deserved.
