ACADEMY TASK #5: Hollywood FC at a glance - soevil - 2025-11-13

For my first Deep Dive I want to give a team overview of Hollywood FC. The reason I picked this team is because I was able to easily type the name and additionally because I think Dom is their GM and I love him. For context, I have no idea how the SSL works or really soccer in general so instead of a probably traditional deep dive I’m going based off vibes. The first thing I want to look at are the users associated with this team. Since I have been around ISFL and the SHL I have come to at least recognize a lot of names. From Hollywood’s main roster, I recognize seven out of the eleven players. What’s more is that I would consider five of those “power users”, a term I associate with users who are all but guaranteed to earn extreme amounts of TPE. These are Muford, ComebackZak, Domffl, Sliceruser, and Wiggli. That is not to take away from the other two people I recognize, Evok and Amidships, it’s just that I don’t seem them as often.

Looking down to what I assume is their “farm team”, F.C. Kaapstad (where tf is this?) also has A LOT of users that I recognize. Of the thirteen players on the minor team, I recognize nine of them. Although less of them I would consider power users. Icebear (I love you), COA, and Mooty are definite power users, and then to also have users like bjkman, Dindog, Tayjay, Doc, and Whovian – I think its safe to say that Hollywood FC is set up for quite a while with so many solid users on their respective squads. (Post writing edit: I now see that both Dindog and Tayjay are inactive, so while I still view them as solid users, they are likely not really worth considering when considering team user strength)

Now, I want to go over some other observations and superlatives. The first superlative is my “favorite player” on Hollywood FC (well, technically on F.C. Kaapstad, and also, why is it Hollywood FC and F.C.Kaapstad?). This award belongs to Squidward Tortellini because I laughed at the name.

The second superlative is “least favorite render” and that award unfortunately has to go to my man Dom with their Bambi render. I just don’t like it, okay?

Now to a little bit of team breakdown and observations. Take all this with a grain of salt because I know fuck all about soccer, but why do you guys have three center defensive midfielders (CDMs?) with two more on the minor team? Of your starting 11 (10 without the goalie), to the untrained eye it looks like six of them are defensive focused – to include the Left Defender, three CDMs, and the Left and Right Wing Backs. Maybe they deploy a sort of counterattacking offense with the wing backs? I genuinely don’t know but I am at least interested to see how it plays out. After this deep dive, I think its pretty certain that Hollywood FC is gonna win the cup.

Completely unbiased opinion: Hollystad is the best org!

Technically Hollywood has a lot of defensive roles but in practice the left backs/wingbacks, right backs/wingbacks, and defensive midfielders contribute a lot to the attack. Ali Dia was 3rd on the team in goals last season with 15 and Calderon the lwb was 2nd in assists with 15(plus 2 goals). You'll find similar trends on other teams as well. Thanks for the writeup!
