So, here I am in the Simulation Soccer League, with a player who has been created and is just waiting to see where he ends up being drafted. This presents me with an opportunity to think back to my initial foray into the world of simulation sports leagues, when I created my first player for the Pro Baseball Experience. It is an interesting exercise because, as I remember the wonder and confusion I experienced back then, it really cannot compare to how I went about things here. Whereas I was going in completed blind then, this time I knew exactly what I was doing in creating this character. Maybe I had different ideas of what traits a certain archetype of player would have, but all-in-all, it went pretty darn smoothly. So, good on ya, SSL brass for putting things together in a well-thought-out manner and for helping us players get started quickly. And as an aside, the PBE player creation is pretty clear, but I think I was just allowing myself to be overcome by the newness of it all.
As for my player, and what I am hoping he achieves, that is all kind of up in the air. I do not really have wild expectations, as I am mainly just here to have a good time, and to watch him develop. We shall see if my initial choices were wise, or if they set him back. Things can always be made whole again with the addition of a sufficient amount of TPE, but I just do not want him swimming upstream for a chunk of his early seasons. I suppose it is pretty clear that I will utilize the community and ask questions about what whichever team I end up on needs, so I can tailor his skills to meet those needs and help the club. Maybe Nico will win a championship or two along the way, who knows?!
