Coming down to the wire - Nol15736 - 2025-12-22

With just 2 games left in season 23 Liffeyside finds themselves in a fight for one of the final sports for division 1 going into season 24. After ending S22 with a league low 6 points I expected us to improve some, but still finish in the bottom 3rd of the league when the season started.

But some growth from within and the call ups we made as boosts at the beginning of the season has really helped us to be a mid table team a season ahead of my own predictions.

Sitting at 7-5-8 and 26 points Liffey currently holds the 6th and final division one spot. Our remaining 2 games are against Shanghai and Xelaju. The Dragons are going to be a tough opponent to beat, as they have also improved going from 19 points last season to 31 (and counting) this season.

Xelaju on the other hand have remained about where they were a season ago as they finished with 25 points in S22 and have 21 points this season with the two games yet to be played. At 5/6/9 Xelaju looks like a game Liffeyside has to win if we want to finish in the upper division.

Looking more in depth at Liffey specifically we have really done a pretty good job with spreading out our scoring. While our Striker Caolien Miedema leads the team with 13 goals we have also seen Leandro Dybala and Aleksandr Skovgaard chip in with 6 goals each and Takeda Takahashi making the most of his first season in Liffey with 3 goals.

In Season 22 Miedema had 15 goals and the next closest on the team was Skovgaard with 3. So having multiple players chip in has really helped us improve.
Last season we scored 32 goals total, this season we have 37 already with 2 games left.

Another big area of improvement was goaltending. Snor Lax made an instant improvement in the Liffeyside net. He has allowed 44 goals in 20 games which is higher than we'd like, but a vast improvement on the 65 goals given up by Mr. Clean-Sheet last season. Snor Lax has 2 clean sheets and an average rating of 7.06 in season 23. Last season Clean-Sheet had 0 CS's and a rating of 6.91. And I know Lax is only going to keep getting better.

Going back to my original point of where we stand and what we have left to accomplish I will offer a prediction.

I think Liffeyside drops game one to Shanghai and Romana draws with Reky, which would set up game 22 to be huge for both squads in a do or die scenario and that would give Liffey the edge as Romana's game 22 is against that same Shanghai squad.

The only other issue in this theory is Schwarzwalder plays Cata and Reyk in their final two games, which could set them up for two Ws and 30 total points. 30 might be the number to get to in order to finish top 6. And with only 2 spots for 4 clubs It'll be interesting to see who ends up getting that chance.
