Home Town - boom - 2026-01-25

In the last few years, I'd been moving around a lot, first going to Istanbul for my SSL Academy season, then being drafted and assigned to CS Rova Mpanjaka in Madagascar. It meant a great opportunity to prove myself and improve my skills, but the travel had been brutal. When the closest other team to Rova was all the way in Egypt, it meant a lot of time spent on planes and not as much time spent getting to actually see the world, since jet lag and lousy sleeps on planes were the norm. When I got that call that I'd been called up to Liffeyside Celtic, I was overjoyed. Not only did it mean that I would get to play in my hometown where I'd been dreaming of playing professional football my whole life, but Dublin was much more centrally located meaning that the travel wouldn't be as taxing as it had been. Of course, with the new divisional system, it turned out that three of the four other European sides at this level were in the other Majors division meaning that we'd be traveling to the more far-flung cities in the league, but it was more than a worthwhile trade-off to get to play in the top division and contend for a Division 1 championship.

The last week in Antananarivo was a bit chaotic as I had to arrange to have my things shipped back to Ireland so they'd be ready for me when I got there. I'd rented an apartment for the short term while I got set up, and before long it was time to finally head back to my homeland. As I saw the familiar sight of the River Liffey through the windows of the plane, my heart swelled with anticipation and pride. I was finally going to fulfil the dream I'd had ever since I was a little girl and before Ireland even had an SSL team to call their own, and pull on that Celtic cross for the first time in a matter of months.
