Debut - boom - 2026-02-08 The ball had just been kicked off for the season opener against Reykjavik United, and I was getting the nerves out of my system. My family was in the crowd watching me play professionally for the first time and Liffeyside were looking to prove that last season's performance to earn a spot in the top division wasn't a fluke. Less than two minutes in, there was a bad turnover on the defensive end and Reykjavik struck first when Mikko Rashford II put a shot past Snor Lax. We did manage to keep the score even going into halftime, and coming back out for the last 45 minutes of the match it didn't take long before we managed to even the score off a corner play. Only a minute later, though, Reykjavik took the lead right back with a header off a corner of their own. Down into injury time, we were still trailing by a goal. With only ten matches this season rather than 22, every match's result was much more important, so we couldn't afford to drop the opener. The ball got played up the right side where Kika Bahl found Leandro Dybala at the sideline. Dybala sent a long pass up towards the middle of the pitch, leading me perfectly to take the pass just past the defender. I had an open lane to the net and put the shot far side, beating the keeper for my first real career goal in the SSL Majors division. In my very first match, in front of my family and friends, I'd helped Liffeyside to secure a critical point with a clutch tying goal. |
