As Shaheen Stagnates, So Too Does Reykjavik U - Jiggy - 2026-02-22 Reykjavik United right-attacking midfielder George Shaheen is still waiting to record his name in the Season 24 statistics books. Through four Major League contests, Shaheen has yet to record an assist or to net a goal. It’s been a disappointing start for the player who is being relied upon to create and finish chances for the Reykjavik club, and it’s likely Shaheen’s early play-making drought is a major contributor to Reykjavik’s own early season struggles. His match grades this season have been among the worst collectively of his career. The club has yet to win a match this season, dropping three games and notching just one draw against top division opponents. The stumbles out of the gate have left Reykjavik in dead last in the Major League top division standings, already 9 table points behind the leader. They have a division-worst -7 goal differential to boot. Needless to say, Shaheen and his teammates have got to find a way to get the Reykjavik offense rolling. The team’s play makers – Shaheen largely among them – have got to start making plays. It’s probably less a question of tactics and more a question of execution. Sure, there is plenty of season left to right the ship. But the longer things stagnate, the steeper the uphill climb to get away from the relegation line will become. One shouldn’t put off for tomorrow what one can do today. And Reykjavik can turn things around. The rebound starts now. |
