A Quick Trip Home - Turd Ferguson - 2026-02-25
Turd, back home for the first time since he went pro, strode purposefully up the front steps to the Pope’s House at the heart of the Vatican. Knocking on the door, he was welcomed by Jeeves, the Pope’s faithful butler, who welcomed Turd home like the prodigal son. Jeeves led Turd upstairs to the Papal Suite to see his benefactor, the man who had raised Turd like his own son after discovering him dribbling a soccer ball down a side street in the slums near the Papal residence. As Turd entered the room, he heard a rasping voice croak, “Welcome home, my son. It’s been a long time and you have travelled far and wide! Tell me, how has your professional journey gone so far?”
“Well, pops, it’s been a real trip!” Turd moved further into the room, his eyes tingling from the incense burning in the corner. “I got drafted by Krung Thep and have been living in Thailand, which has been quite a change. And what’s more, I started playing goalkeeper! That’s right, I stop balls for a living now instead of shooting them.” The Pope considered this for a second, his eyes gleaming in the semi-darkness. “Well, I never took you for a goalkeeper, but the Lord works in mysterious ways and it is not for us to question Him.”
“Yes padre, I agree – although it was not a case of divine intervention that led me between the pipes, but rather the needs of the team. When they came calling, I answered!” Turd moved closer to his adoptive father, giving him a big hug. “Thanks for always supporting me, pops. Without you, I don’t know where I would be!” The Pope smiled. “Of course, my child. Now, let’s go out into the backyard so I can take some shots on net!”

I'd forgotten your country was Vatican City. I'm just slightly concerned that your father is the pope, even if you were adopted.
