The Category Is - jacobcarson877 - 2026-03-15 This week’s focus has been concentration, and as such, he has made his way around the region, volunteering at the local primary schools. He of course gives a little talk on being whoever you want to be, working hard, being a good teammate, and never giving up, but he’s really mostly there for the schoolyard game of Concentration. So after making an appearance at the pickup soccer game, he makes his way over to the paved area and listens for the telltale signs of a game worth concentrating on. He’s been studying his categories for most the the week, foods, colours, animals, names, words that start with any letter, and countries. Unfortunately anything else would have to be straight off the dome. After a couple minutes of wandering, Kaspars Kalinins stumbles upon his prize. He gets in line to join, as this is a King of the Hill scenario, and observes the patterns of the schoolyard master. The challenger always brings the category, but the reigning champion knows how to play that game. They strategically slow the clap transition whenever they need to think, subtly enough that the other children don’t notice, and they tend to use another word with the same starting letter whenever they get caught up. And so at last, when Kaspars makes it to the King of the Hill, a 2nd grader named Sarah, he learns the most important lesson about Concentration. Always know how long until the bell rings. All that studying for nothing, and it’s off to his day job, defensive midfielder for Rova. |
