A Rookie Victoria Falls Experience - BigSocks - 2026-03-16

I joined up here in the SSL a couple of months after discovering (or rather, re-discovering - I have a poor memory) that sim sports are a thing. Though hockey is my first love, being assigned to Victoria Falls (VFE) was an interesteing ride to asy the least! From player creation on, I really had no idea what I was doing. I chose a position or two based on vibes. I ended up as a CMB, which seemed fun enough. Teams scouting my player seemed to agree, though I was of course asked about my interest in or willingness to switch positions. Not being attached to anything, I really didn't mind being asked if I'd switch.

Joining the VFE locker room was some instant fun. The team was on a roll and would continue to be throughout the season. At a certain point, near the mathematical clinching point, pre-game chatter was more about exacting revenge for past losses, enforcing dominance in a rivalry, or just putting up as many goals as possible. As a player, that was pretty easy to enjoy. As a very low-TPE player out there on the pitch, the score sheets were a very easy to ignore. Any game where I didn't break both legs or score an own goal was a winner right away.

The feel of the various team channels was also an instant hit with me. I loved following along with the conversations, seeing people pull things out of game logs, and generally have a good time. Team management contributed a lot to this, keeping a lively atmosphere going.

All in all, it definitely pushed me to look forward to the coming seasons as my player (I hope!) improves.
