SSL x CK3 Chapter 2 : "The First Decade" - norththegreatestshowman - 2026-03-18

These early years were not kind to everyone. House Elchstad was the first to die out. Indeed, Ambros died in 871 after a hunting accident involving a wolf.
House Fiction also teetered on the brink of extinction in 874 during the Qaysid Muslim attack on Barcelona. Duke Meta's life ended when an arrow struck him in the heart as he tried to defend the city. Upon hearing of his death, the defenders fled the city, which was then given to Empress Margarida of House Arago. However, House Fiction survived through the young Meta II, now Count of Languedoc. The four-year-old had retreated to Montpellier and, with the help of his mother and advisors, was preparing to reclaim his family's lands.

The last major loss of this tumultuous decade was the demise of Črtomir of the House of Voda in 876. The cunning Count of Kranj was executed in Leibach after a failed attempt to poison his rival, Duke Arnulf, known as "the Bastard," of Bavaria. Since Črtomir never had a legitimate heir, the House of Voda also became extinct.

The Connacht chieftain Pyro Kirkpatrick married Eithne of Clan Neill in 869. He had to prove his warrior skills on numerous occasions, defeating Chieftain Tigernan of Mayo in a duel in 870, and then repelling two Viking invasions in 872 and 877. He lost a leg in the process, but gained his first child, a daughter named Duinsech.

Chief Cam and Jarl Lukas clashed at Angus in 869. The battle turned against Papian, prompting his House to sign a ten-year truce after their defeat. After quelling a peasant revolt in 873, Cam married Derbforgaill of House Morgan. They had a daughter together in 974 named Tuathflaith. He subsequently went to war against Jarl Ivar, known as the Boneless, son of the renowned Ragnar Lodbrock. The conflict was still ongoing in 877 and had reached a stalemate after several hard-fought battles.

After his initial defeat at Angus in 868, Jarl Lukas Papian had to contend with neighbors as warlike as himself. He defeated Jarl Roald of Edgafilky in single combat in 869 and the nomadic leader Kaleva in 873 before subduing Chief Vagn of Varend at the Battle of Kindaholm in 874. However, the Sjaelland region remained in conflict with Jarl Stellan from 875 onward, and the conflict appeared to be turning in favor of the Jutlander neighbor.

Jarl Stellan, for his part, wasted no time. After marrying Saga "The Truth-Teller," granddaughter of Ragnar Lodbrok, he fathered three children, including two sons named Dorde and Karl. Some poems, however, spoke of his passion for a servant named Unnr, who mysteriously disappeared in 868. By 878, he had been in conflict with Jarl Lukas Papian for over two years, and the gods seemed to be on Stellan's side, who could become the most important man in Scandinavia if he prevailed.

Queen Artoria of Cornwall married Prince Riwallon of Brittany in 867, abandoning the future of her house to protect her family. Despite two difficult pregnancies, she defeated the chieftain Freyr of Schleswig in 874 at Exeter. Their two sons, Solomon and Conuallon, were of the House of Poher.

Jarl Coveredin had a much more peaceful start to his reign. He married Astridr of Clan Jämtland in 873, and they had their first child that same year, a daughter named Dordis. A second child is on the way as Coveredin leads his people on the path of religious awakening.

Jarl Jack of Holland had a very busy start to his reign. After successfully suppressing a war of dethronement (868) and a pagan revolt (871), Jack lost a duel to Jarl Ivar "The Boneless," who spared his life (872). However, the representative of House Lumberius contracted Cupid's disease, which considerably affected his mind. Chroniclers attributed the origins of this affliction to his frequent sodomite orgies. In what his contemporaries called "his madness," he declared war on Lotharingia and, against all odds, brought the country to its knees in 877, less than four years after the start of hostilities. To celebrate his victory, the Jarl of Holland then decided to become betrothed to the granddaughter of the defeated king, Irmgard of House Karling, who was then 11 years old.

After several years of suppressing peasant revolts in his fiefdom, Duke Roquefort first came to prominence for his hatred of Count Herbert of Issoudun following a particularly drunken evening. The ambitious Duke of Aquitaine became infatuated with the Count's fiancée, Alix of the House of Milonide, even though he was already betrothed to Duchess Ermengarda of Auvergne. Count Herbert died mysteriously in 877. Alix was then abducted from Duke Cotswold by the House of Karling, who married her to their heir, Pepin. Enraged, he launched a war of liberation against the Kingdom of France in 878.

Count Billy, meanwhile, was in turmoil. After a successful marriage to Infanta Ximena of House Iniga, which bore him two sons, Martin (867) and Billy (872), he became the target of Spanish plots and Muslim alliances, resulting in his defeat in several wars (873, 874, 875, 876). He was now merely Count of León.

Count Alessandro of Lombardy, once known for his very masculine physique, distinguished himself on several occasions. After his marriage to Countess Richilde of Metz, from the House of Bouvinid, who bore him a son, Azzo (869), and two daughters, Ginevra (873) and Adelia (877), he became notorious for numerous acts of torture. He was also the one who brought about the collapse of the Kingdom of Italy (873). Captured by the vengeful Count Berthari of Brescia in 974, he endured torture for over a year before managing to kill his captor and escape.

Duke Lukas Delucka Bisonball spent his time fighting his neighbors on numerous occasions, conquering the county of Znojmo during his adventures. He also fathered five children in ten years with his wife, Przybyczesc (Yeah, I know) of House Slezan. His only son, Velen, was born in 872. The duke was also known for his many pilgrimages to northern Europe, establishing himself as a champion of his faith, Slovianska pravda.

Judike Giacomino, on the other hand, was more discreet. His only mentions during these ten years spoke of his wealth and his desire to wage an orthodox holy war against the Sheikh of Tunis, which led to his capture twice by Sultan Muhammad of the Aghlabids, who, mercifully, let him go free after only two weeks in his dungeons.

The same is true for Emir John II, who was only known for his four marriages which gave him three daughters and for his almost legendary friendship with the Berkanids.

Sultan Fara married three times in 867. His principal wife, Zilgum, with whom he had a deep friendship, suffered three miscarriages. In 875, he annexed Marrakech, becoming one of the most influential sultans in North Africa.

Daimyo Bea Vie began her life as a noblewoman by marrying Prince Motoyasu. Thanks to her negotiating skills, the two children they had together, Takako (871) and Motomichi (874), were of the Bun Son clan, a necessity for the latter's survival.

Lan of House Mandragoran had a much more difficult start in life. Constantly attacked by his neighbors, he lost the Kotan of Soya in 874 and became a mercenary in the region where he married a young Lowborn shamanist named Niftyuk.

Khan Glennallen was known for the many bastard children he fathered with numerous different women over the years. His territory also expanded southward in quick succession in 871 and 873. He was now known as an effective commander, but he withdrew from fighting in 877 after the death of his wife, Gulay, who died in childbirth giving birth to their only legitimate child, the young Terkhen.

Strategos Predrag's life was occupied with managing administrative problems on his lands. In 873, he adopted a 43-year-old man named Prokopios into his family, still having no male heirs from his marriage to Lady Helen of the House of Radenos, who was suspected of being incestuous by Byzantine high society.

Chief Furious is constantly at war with his neighbors in Vestrland. After killing his father, Ingolfr, his daughter, Chief Audr, took control of the region. She seems to have gained the upper hand in 876 and could soon annex her ungainly neighbor and his blood-red-haired daughter.

Mathias-Xavier, chief of Minsk, has enjoyed a string of military successes over the past decade, now uniting three new regions under his control. However, he is wary of the formidable Khazar cavalry approaching his lands and will need to unite with all his neighbors if he hopes to survive their attacks. His wife, Tatyana of the House of Dregovich, bore him a son in 876 and is pregnant again.

His neighbor, Chief Jubka, nicknamed "the handsome," plunders his neighbors with little resistance, making him one of the richest men in the region. However, since his only son was born to a concubine, legitimacy issues may arise in the future—at least, if the Khazars don't deal with them first.
