Academy Review - João Mendes - jason97 - 2026-03-21 Stockholm, Sweden With the Academy season finally coming to an end, it's time to look back on Mendes' first full season before turning pro. He was able to feature in every single game and, most importantly, play all 90 minutes, an important aspect in terms of development. Whether he was performing well or not, he was able to play through adversity and gain experience on the pitch. Another important aspect was that Mendes was able to play in different formations and play in different roles in midfield, something he is very grateful for. In terms of actual output, Mendes was able to grab one assist in those 14 games. He only took 8 shots, with only 2 being on target. His successful pass percentage was 91.43%, a very important statistic for the defensive midfielder, and he was aiming to be over 90%. He had 11 key passes, while also creating three chances. Defensively, he had an over 70% successful tackle percentage, with 19 interceptions, 28 clearances, and 5 blocks. Mendes has 2 mistakes leading to goals (both happened in the same game) and had only 1 yellow card. With the draft a week away, Mendes can't wait to begin his journey with an SSL organization. He's excited to get started in the minors, and with the great conversations he's had with different scouts and management, he knows the best is yet to come. [231 words] |
