Academy Task 5: S25 Prospect Draft - Top 5 - jason97 - 2026-03-28

With the SSL Draft under 24 hours away, this is officially crunch time. Organizations are having their final meetings as they assess their draft boards. Players are eager to have their names called. This is a big day for so many young prospects looking to make an impact in the league. We'll be taking a look at the top five picks in this season's draft and who I think would be a great fit.

Pick 1. - Schwarzwälder FV - - CDM Juliette Greer

The prestigious first overall selection will be in the hands of Schwarzwälder FV. Finishing with only two wins across the organization last season, I have them going with the best player available. For me, it's either Juliette Greer or Ekon Ayo, the two star prospects at the top of the class. I don't think they can go wrong with either. With Schwarzwälder FV going mostly defenders in the last few drafts, I predict American Juliette Greer being the selection. She is at the top of the class in TPE, has a healthy bank balance, and can play anywhere in the midfield. She will try to be that rock in Montreal as they look to get back in the first division.

Pick 2. - Tokyo S.C. - - LD Ekon Ayo

With the second overall selection, I have Tokyo S.C. taking Nigerian international Ekon Ayo. Ayo is very versatile and can play along the entire backline. He boasts the second-highest TPE in the class and has the highest bank balance in the class. I think there is a clear need at LD, and this fits like a glove. Ekon is a great locker room fit and has put out some very detailed and in-depth media so far. With Tokyo having some young talent in both the majors and minors, Ayo will only benefit from growing with such a young core.

Pick 3. - A.C. Romana - - CM Vyacheslav Shevchenko

With the two best prospects gone, A.C. Romana can pretty much go anywhere with this pick. As A.C. Romana also has the 8th and 12th in the first round, they will likely look to add in every position to replenish the minors. With no current CM on their minors roster, I think they will secure one of the top three central midfielders. For me, the selection here is Belarusian Vyacheslav Shevchenko. Some would argue he is currently the most well-rounded player in the draft, as his attributes are evenly distributed. Another young prospect going into a great situation. 4 goals and 8 assists in the academy will only raise his draft stock.

Pick 4. - CA Buenos Aires - - ST Armero Staple

This is a huge spot to be in for CA Buenos Aires, with back-to-back selections and not picking until the third round again. Looking at their organization, with two strikers on the older side and none currently on the minors roster, I think this is the perfect spot to replenish the front line. I believe the selection here would be Spanish striker Armero Staple. A pacey striker with great composure and finishing, it's going to be hard to pass up on. With 17 goals and 4 assists in 14 appearances in the academy, Staple is going to be very successful in Buenos Aires.

Pick 5. - (from CD Tenochtitlan) CA Buenos Aires - - GK Domingo Hernández

With Buenos Aires going Staple at four, I think they take a chance on a goalkeeper at five. With only three goalies in the draft and one being amongst the top earners, this could be an interesting selection. They have a regressing goalkeeper in the minors and an inactive one in the majors. That's why I have American Domingo Hernández being the pick here. Domingo had a strong showing in his academy season, with the most clean sheets. the most saves parried and the best save percentage.
