The SSL Evening News (S25MD03) - CamGoldenGun - 2026-04-17 SSL Evening News S25 MD03 ![]() Good evening. I’m Duncan Disorderly. It’s been an extraordinarily busy day and I’ve been up since 4:30 so lets get right to it. It was SSL Cup qualifying day in the league which meant 8 matchups: First up, Montreal vs. Krung Thep. An example for everyone to prove Dom Toretto right when he said, “It doesn’t matter if you win by an inch or a mile, winning’s winning.” Montreal were almost completely absent in the first half and nailed one of their only opportunities to equalize within 2 minutes after half time. That was enough to see them through to 90 minutes. With an overturned goal in extras, Montreal held on to beat Krung Thep 4-2 in penalties. To Buenos Aires, a near perfect performance from assistant captain Giacomo Santori lifted the Sunshines over the Masks 4-0. Askito Satoshi went virtually unchallenged, stopping the only shot that was on target. We reached out to Santori after the match but declined the interview stating that, “...there’s nothing to say. It’s a major versus a minor team.” No Cinderella story for the Cote D’Ivoire team. Seoul and Cairo was a fairly even matchup, jousting back and forth until the 56th minute when the season 23 junior, You Jiang scored the only goal of the affair - continuing Cairo’s immaculate season. In what might be the only giant-killing matchup this round, Rova overcame Schwarzwälder one nil from an 18th minute goal provided by the player of the match, Jay Cue Jr. The match was fairly lackluster as each goalkeeper stopped one shot a piece for the entire night. The minor league team from Madagascar move on to the round of 16. London faced an uphill battle against South Africa’s Kaapstad. Despite the characteristically rainy weather in London, an unfortunate turnover by London’s new rookie from the ocean, Sharko Demarco, gifted Ashworth his second goal of the night. Ryan O’Neill attempted to bring life back into the team in the 33rd minute but before half time, Bad Wolf put the exclamation mark on the match after Inter London failed to clear it from their end after several attempts. Kaapstad win it four to 1. To Rome, A.C. Romana dominated Tokyo S.C. Dobrić continuing to find the goal after soul searching this off-season. Billy Bobby attempted to bring Tokyo back from the brink of annihilation late in the batch but Tokyo couldn’t capitalize on the momentum. Romana 2, Tokyo 1. Greg Evil was Rapid Magyar’s only answer to Paris. Magyar failed to complete a quarter of their passes and was only able to control possession for a third of the match. Paris had the opportunity to grab 5 but the aging Belmont could not put a penalty past James Asprey in the 60th minute. Paris wins this matchup 4 to one. The final cup qualifier match was Athênai and North Shore United where the Owlets only came to play for the first thirty of ninety minutes. After Miko Rashford the third’s first goal, it appears Athênai’s energy was spent and the Kiwi’s found a fifth gear in the last twenty minutes of the match scoring an additional 3 goals. Final score: 6-1 North Shore. Anyone on Del Pirlo watch, note the senior netted his one hundred and ninety first and second goals of his professional career. In Academy play: only half the squads showed up to their matches. Port Royal left their winning ways at home as they had no answer for Atlético Medellin. They looked to have the slight edge over the Colombians but were not able to score against the Manuel Neuer Legend. Medellin three, Port Royal nil. Stockholm continuing to have a, dare I say, championship-worthy season defeating Jakarta five nil. Geronimo Datbasted started out the scoring then left the rest of the game to Dutch wonderkid Dennis van Huntelrooy. The future legend scored four, count them, four goals. Outstanding. To Africa, where Sydney City forgot to show up after new attacking midfielder, Josh Harper, netted their only goal of the match. This was the equalizer goal after a controversial penalty was awarded to Adowa Accra in the 17th minute. Accra went on to score four more unanswered goals to defeat the Roos five to one. Player of the match, Nick Kasak had a perfect ten point oh rating with three assists and four chances created. Also to note, Che Youz continues to have his eye on the Academy league’s golden boot, scoring two of his own. And finally, Victoria Falls swept Istanbul four nil. That’s all for us here at the A.I. Studios in some guy’s basement. I am Duncan Disorderly. Goodnight. [771 words] |
