MD#8 & MD#9
Matchday #8 - Port Royal FC vs Stockholm IK

We've now hit the halfway point of the SSL Academy season for the class of S26 and the league is in full swing, constant changes in the table! Last week was an up and down week for Port Royal as they beat Jakarta 7-2 then lost the next match against Istanbul. With the first round of fixtures completed we are now into the reverse fixtures, playing every team one more time. Up today in MD#8 Port Royal are facing Stockholm, last time they met Stockholm ran out 3-0 winners, so this was a chance for the Royals to enact some revenge and try to build on a good performance last week and pick up their 3rd win of the season.

Port Royal FC went ahead with a change to the formation, they decided to opt with a 4-2-4 formation, running the usual back 4, going back to a pairing of Munro and Starscream in the middle of the park, and pushing Bryant back out left, Black in the usual right hand side, with the biggest change coming up top as McGlynn was put up front next to Owen Goal in a bid to shake things up and become more clinical in their chances that they have never been short of creating.

In the 6th Minute, Port Royal had a free kick just outside the center circle, Munro crossed it into the box, Tenderloin knocked it forward towards the penalty spot when Erickson managed to flick the ball over EnBach in the Stockholm net and the ball trickled over the line into the back of the net, and with a sizzling start, the Royals managed to find themselves up 1-0!

Straight from kick off Port Royal managed to intercept a pass from Stockholm and retrieve the ball again, after a passage of slow build up play, McGlynn passed to Munro, who laid it off for Gerrard Legend to run with the ball towards the center of the 18 yard box and he curled his effort into EnBachs bottom left corner and in 60 seconds Port Royal managed to double their lead, 2-0!

Now 6 minutes later in the 12th minute, Bryant had the ball in the center circle, he played a lobbed through pass over the top of the Stockholm defence, who were pushed up too high, to Owen Goal who had made a great run behind the defence, he ran the ball into the 18 yard box then cut a square pass across to Barry McGlynn, his new striking partner, who just tapped the ball into an open net and in the first 12 minutes of play it was 3-0 to Port Royal. McGlynn has finally managed to score his first goal since his brace in the debut MD#1. He'll for sure be happy with that.

Stockholm finally had their first effort at goal in the 17th minute when Mendoza had the ball down the right hand side and played a high cross to the backpost for Dennis Van Huntelrooy whose low headed effort was caught by Ian Degon in goals. The goalkeeper then played a long punt up the park, the ball bounced over the Stockholm defence, McGlynn picked up the ball and passed to Owen Goal, he then played a pass left to Bryant whose shot beat EnBach in goals but could only crash off the post. Great counter attack from Port Royal.

Arsene Cardinet intercepted a pass from the Royals defenders and whipped in a cross to Dennis Van Huntelrooy who was open in the middle of the box, but could only put his headed effort over the bar. A chance you would put your mortgage on Dennis to score.

Cardinet then crossed in a corner to Van Huntelrooy and his header was saved by Degon. 25 minutes into the game and Stockholm are desperately trying to find their way back into this. Shortly after, another corner swung in by Cardinet and Van Huntelrooy again headered the ball, this time just past the wrong side of the post.

Bang on 30 minutes played and Port Royal had a corner swung in by Bryant, to the near post where Pork Tenderloin Legend was hanging around and he managed to header it near post into the back of the net, 4-0 to Port Royal! Phenomenal stuff here from the Royals!

Stockholm then with a chance in the 38th minute as Vox's shot in the box was tipped wide for a corner. Unfortunately for Stockholm, the resulting corner came to nothing. Then 5 minutes later another corner for Stockholm and Van Huntelrooy had a headed effort punched away by Degon.

Right on the stroke of half time, Stockholm raced forward with the ball as Datbastad's feet, after a sloppy pass where the ball bobbled around, it made tis way to Jack Pows feet and he composed himself and rifled a left footed shot past Degon into the back of the net and right before the half time whistle, it was 4-1!. A sprinkle of hope for Stockholm.

Half Time

A terrific first half showing from Port Royal saw them have a much deserved 3 goal lead with a scoreline of 4-1. They just had to remain composed and not become complacent to throw this lead away, and hopefully finish the game was 3 points secured in the bag.

48th minute and Vox with the ball down the left hand side played a bass to DatBastad who had made the run into the box, collected the ball and then was tripped by Scream and the referee blow his whistle and pointed towards the penalty spot! Kairo Vox stepped up to take the penalty, and beautifully dispatched it past Degon who went the wrong way and made it a 2-goal game as it was 4-2.

Not much was happening in the game until about 12 minutes later at the 60th minute where Owen Goal skied an effort from just outside the 18 yard box.

Jack Pow came close in the 66th minute when his effort from 12 yards was saved and tipped over for a corner, the corner was taken by Cardinet and Krpans header went over the crossbar. A nice effort to try and salvage something from Stockholm.

In the 71st minute Scream intercepted a slack pass and carried the ball forward, then had an ambitious effort from 25 yards just sail past the post. Neither team really getting a grip of this game, chances are few and far between compared to the exhilarating first half performances.

86 minutes played and Port Royal had a chance to go further in the lead as Munro played a nice through ball to his brother McGlynn who from a tight angle had a tame effort on his weak foot tipped over the crossbar by EnBach in goals.

The referee then put an end to the game by blowing the full time whistle. The game seemed to have started and ended within 30 minutes of the first half as nothing really notable happened for the rest of the game. Port Royal just ran out 4-2 winners with a performance everyone at the club could be proud of. A change in formation proved to be fruitful from manager Piza as finally they were able to capitalise on the stream of chances that they could create and finally put the ball into the back of the net! Ultimately, a day to forget for Stockholm as they look to regroup and get ready for their next match.
Matchday #9 - Port Royal FC vs Sydney City

Now we've got ourselves to Thursday night and it's Matchday #9 where Port Royal will be playing against Sydney City. In the first game between the two sides, the Royals found themselves winning 4-2 and sitting pretty at the top of the league with high expectations for their season based on that performance , however it has not turned out the way they would've liked.

Today they line up with same formation and starting XI hoping to continues their good performance last time out against Stockholm.

Our first chance of the game came in the 8th minute where McGlynn picked up the ball along the left hand side, he travelled with the ball about 30 yards past the Sydney defence and found himself in space at the 12 yard spot however a very poor finish saw his shot roll into the goalkeepers arms. Very poor effort.

A very long 22 minutes later saw the only next chance in the game for Port Royal as Bryant ran down the left hand side of the park and played a very high cross into the box and Owen Goal jumped and headered the ball about 12 yards over the crossbar.

Half Time

Yes you read that right, half time. Ridiculously poor first half performance from both teams, seems they've just turned up to play a game of passy around the park, only 2 efforts worth mentioning and to be honest, based on those efforts McGlynn really should have put the Royals up 1-0. Here's hoping for even a slight improvement in the 2nd half, we're not asking for much.

Sydney with a corner, Walker IV crosses it in and Mertz Legends header clipped the bar as it went over.

Port Royal were slack in possession in the 66th minute as Sydney intercepted the long ball from the goalkeeper, played it forward for Ship who then travelled forward into the box and his shot was tipped wide by Degon. The resulting corner, unsurprisingly came to nothing.

In the 70th minute, Munro passed the ball to Bryant who then knocked it forward to McGlynn, he looked up, 30 yards from goal and saw he had plenty of time and space, decided to have a tasty curling effort that was destined for the top corner, however was saved by Duic in the Sydney goals. Quite a spectacular effort to be fair.

75 minutes and Jay Pea crossed in a free kick which landed at Stones feet, his shot was tipped past the post by Degon for a corner. The corner again... came to nothing.

Unshark then found himself some space to run into down the right hand side in the 79th minute, playing a high cross into the box, Owen Goal was on the other end of the cross and his header looped over the goalkeeper and bounced off the top of the crossbar and out for a goal kick.

Stone, in the 88th minute had a header sail over the crossbar, and that would be the final moment of the game as the referee couldn't be bothered watching any more of this turgid performance from both teams and blew his whistle to make it end 0-0.

Overall, a forgettable game, lets move onto next week. For Port Royal at least its 4 points from a possible 6 this week. It's something.
