SSL Majors & Minors Mascot/Nickname - anjro - 2026-05-25 Continuing my SSL Academy Mascot/Nickname Article https://forum.simulationsoccer.com/showthread.php?tid=9611 In some instances, these teams might already have names. If I recognized it, then I listed it. If not, I guess you can consider these alternate names. Minors Athenai FC - Greece Olympians – I like leaning into the Greek gods here. Spartans or Titans area also reasonable choices. Cairo City – Egypt Crocodiles – There are a lot of other options including cat, camel, and jackal. I like crocodile as it represents the god Sobek which symbolizes power and strength. It is also one of the C options. Camel is pretty unique though. FC Kaapstad – South Africa Springboks – The national animal of South Africa. Seoul MFC – South Korea Tigers – National animal. Inter London - England Lions – The national animal of England. The Dragon represents the city of London, but we already have Shanghai Dragons. Lions are regal and majestic so it is a fine option. Bulldog could be another option. AS Paris - France Roosters – I learned this from the Overwatch League. But it is a famous national symbol of France. North Shore United – New Zealand Kiwis – New Zealand national bird and also nickname for New Zealanders. Montreal United - Canada Lumberjacks – There are a bunch of lumberjack heroes that are of French-Canadian origin. Paul Bunyan vibes. Rapid Magyar SC - Hungary Turuls – Mythical bird of prey. National symbol for Hungarians. Krung Thep FC - Thailand Nagas – Strong, multi-headed serpent gods. Shows up in Thai mythology. Official national mythological creature. AF Masques Sacres – Côte d'Ivoire Spiders – Maybe this is me coming from the ISFL where we have a team called the Black Forest Brood. But I was doing some research for this one and came upon Anansi the spider in the folklore and it brought me back to elementary school nostalgia. Anyways, this character represents wisdom and survival. Usually, he tricks larger and more dangerous creatures. While he is just one character, maybe we can imagine a whole team of them. CS Rova Mpanjaka – Madagascar Lemurs – Their most famous animal. You may remember them from the movie. Majors CA Buenos Aires - Argentina Aguante – Based on my research this translates to passion, endurance, and loyalty. It is a cultural concept in Argentine soccer – to hang in there through the thick and thin. I am not sure if I am using it correctly, but I think it would be cool to have a team based around this concept. Tokyo SC – Japan Samurai – I’ve always thought having a samurai based team would be awesome. Hollywood FC – USA (California) Legends – I think this plays on the stories that area told in the entertainment industry. CF Catalunya - Spain White Gorillas – This is a bit of a curve ball. The Catalan donkey is probably the unofficial national symbol. But it does not really strike me as a great animal for a team. The national symbol is the Spanish bull. This one fits much better and is probably my 1B. I like White Gorillas but may be in the minority. It represents Snowflake the world’s only known white gorilla that lived in the Barcelona Zoo. AC Romana – Italy Wolves – This one kept coming up. Seems to be the unofficial national symbol and is famous for the legend of Romulus and Remus which led to the founding of the Roman Kingdom. Uniao Sao Paulo - Brazil Bandeirantes – These were frontiersmen and explorers mostly from Sao Paulo back in the 16th century. They helped expand Brazil’s boarders. This seems like a unique group, my only worry is there are ties to slavery. So, alternatives could just be explorers, jaguar, or caramelo (mutt). Reykjavik United - Iceland Vikings – They are known as the birthplace of Iceland’s first Norse settlement. Schwarzwalder FV - Germany Eagles – It is already on the German coat of arms. Some other options could be German Shepherd or Brown Bear. I would be happy with any of these options. Shanghai Dragons FC - China Dragons - It’s in the name; nothing left for me to do here. CD Tenochtitlan – Mexico Aztecs – I like the ties to ancient civilization. Luchadores is another fun option but that is already used by a DSFL team. It is a little weird to have your mascot/name be based off another sport though. Xelaju Cosmico FC - Guatemala Volcanoes – Since we’re already doing Aztecs for Mexico, it’s probably best not to do Mayans here. Although I don’t hate it. It could be a fun rivalry game. Guatemala is in the Pacific Ring of Fire so there are more than 30 volcanoes in the area. I would also be open to lava as another option. Liffeyside Celtic FC – Ireland Celtic – It is already in the name too. |
