Opinion on the draft as a new player - Bergmau - 2026-05-27

Let me start of with saying, I have never played in a sim league before, when I signed up, I didnt even know what to call it, thats how clueless I was and still am regarding a big chunk of topics in this league. Now before I tank my draft stock even more by going more in depth about my cluelessness, lets talk about the draft.

I have talked to some players, scouts, organizations and their representatives. I have seen a few mock drafts and while I can see a few unique factors in the different analysis of each writer of these mock drafts. I still have no idea where anybody, including me, is landing pretty much.

Now, as an European, this whole draft thing is not necessarily familiar, but I have watched some NFL/NHL drafts before, but havent engaged in the whole cycle before that. And yes, I am aware, that part of the fun lays in not knowing when or who is going to draft you, but can you truly say, you wouldnt like to know beforehand?

With all that being said. I do look forward to the draft and finding out where my new home will be and yes I do like reading these mock drafts, even if I did not make one myself. And of course I had lots of fun talking with all the different scouts and players that I have been in contact with thus far.

Best of luck to everybody in the draft. May you find THE perfect landing spot for yourself.

Speaking as a mini "vet" in sim leagues now who's also GMing elsewhere, the biggest thing we always consider is the user. Be a good person, be active and "earn" your TPE well (don't use AI), you're likely to go pretty high. We rarely, if ever consider on field performance, more likely never. (I've seen someone do well on the pitch in the Academy but talk their way out of even being drafted). But I've seen people slip through the cracks and then shine as a high earner later on or just break out of their shell and be a good part of a team's "War room" or locker room. No matter how high you go, in the end, if you find a team that's decently run and you have fun, that's what matters most. I've been lucky to be in Shanghai since they just came off their expansion, had a great group of people running it, and were looking to just build a solid community and we've enjoyed it. Here's hoping where you land you're able to enjoy it and make the most of it in our silly community.

Completely agree with you. As a fellow European, it took me a while to get my head round it all.
But good luck and all the best for next season, wherever you end up!
