Promotion for London - jason97 - 2026-05-31 London, England With only one matchday left, Inter London had one game remaining between them and promotion. There was no more time to watch other games and hope for results to swing our way. While only being one point ahead of Cairo City, all that mattered was this game. Win, and you're in. Everyone was a little nervous pre-game. Although they were nerves of excitement, we also knew that everything we had worked for all season could mean nothing at the end of those 90 minutes. However, with a good run of form, winning the last two matches, the team was confident in their abilities and wanted to win for each other. With the home crowd behind them, the opening 45 minutes had Inter London dominating the expected goals but coming away from it with nothing. The shots were 13-6; however, they only mustered up 2 shots on target. A team that had been so clinical in front of goal all season, leading the division two table with 40 goals, couldn't seem to find a way through. The second half was a cagey one, both teams not wanting to make that critical mistake. As Cairo City began to throw more bodies forward, it took until the 85th minute for Inter London to score that all-so-crucial goal. O'Neill played a perfect through ball to João Mendes, who cut it back to a streaking Pope Francis, who slotted it past the diving keeper. His first goal of the season, and what a time to score it. The final whistle blows, and Inter London are Division Two champions. They will be playing their football next season in the first division. A team projected to finish towards the bottom half of the table before the season had done what many thought wasn't possible. A dream start to João Mendes' career with his first trophy in the SSL.
