Otis Boudreaux - Sometimes, Life Happens
#1
Sometimes, well, life happens. Otis was all ready, he had gotten all settled after he moved into his new flat in Cairo, yes, it is hot there, but a good air conditioner worked wonders. Then the phone rang. It was one of those phone calls that can throw the best laid plans in a mess. His parents were in trouble. Not the kind of trouble that requires lawyers are men wearing dark sunglasses that move in the shadows. No, it wasnt even the type of trouble that calling the Ghostbusters would help with. It was only the type of trouble that a son could hep with.

So Otis dropped everything and headed to Nashville. He was hoping that it would be taken care of in a day or two. But one day turned into three, which stretched into four, and the next thing he knew not only one week had passed, but he had moved into the two week area. Finally though, things were back under control. Well, at least with his parents.

He was on the phone every day, trying to sort this thing out and then the other. He never thought using his signing bonus to buy his parents a new house would be a problem. But then they never trusted anyone but him to deal with certain things, and those are the type of things associated with a move. So this gift for a life-time of sacrifice, caused some serious issues for him.

There probably couldnt have been a worse time this to happen though for the young forward. How to help his family while trying to earn a spot on the team? He knew that Cairo had drafted him to fill a glaring hole in the front line, but now what? The owners and GM of Cairo were wonderful. The support they provided was beyond measure. At first, they were willing to fly Otis from the practice facilities to Nashville every other day. When that wasnt feasible, they even offered to see if they could lease the practice field from the Nashville Soccer Club or even the Tennessee Titans and move the practice sessions there so Otis could help his family.

But none of this was feasible. The jet lag from crossing numerous time zones every other day took their toll on Otis. Cairo was unable to find somewhere to lease practice facilities closer to where Otis had to be. So the tough choice was made. Otis had to take some time away from the team to help his family.

Everyone on the team knew that family comes first. It is not just a saying with the Cairo Football Club, it is a way of life. So Otis went home, to his parent's house. He focused on giving them the support they needed. He knew his football career would be there, but this time with his family, even it it was to just help them get settled, was the top priority.

Everyone knew that until his family was settled that Otis couldnt concentrate on being the best Forward in the SSF. The team made the choice that Otis was going to be given the time to take care of family issue and then he would be back. He would be back to give 100% to the team.

Now, that has happened. Things are taken care of. Otis is back in Cairo, his parents are taken care of. He knows that when the league schedule allows the team will fly him back to Nashville to see them. But for now, he can concentrate on doing what he was brought in to Cairo to do, score goals.
