Theme Week - Atletica Venezia

I would bring the Simulation Soccer League's brand new expansion team to Europe. It was a tough decision where exactly to settle, but the I realized there would be no better spot to land than the scenic canals of Venice. I toyed around with various other locations, one of the Scandinavian countries, perhaps Germany, or a smaller nation like Switzerland, Austria, or Slovakia. Ultimately I saw Venice on the map, and once I remembered the Italian name of the city, I knew Venice would make a great location for a team. So I decided to place them there and call them under their Italian name - Venezia.

Deciding how else to name the team was another challenge. I wanted some kind of naming scheme that was still classic football, but also unique enough to not just be a copy of an existing team. An FC didn't make too much sense to me as it wasn't Italian, and if I was going with the Italian name of Venezia, I would want to keep that theme with the rest of the name. There was the possibility of AC Venezia, short for Associazione Calcio (Football Association). That didn't seem quite right, so perhaps simply Venezia Calcio (Venice Football). Ultimately though, I went with the more unique Atletica Venezia (Venice Athletics). It was a good blend of the Italian name, and it fit nicely into the naming schemes that already exist in the SSL.

As far as choosing the colours, I would go with a nice kind of sea green/sea blue, for the canals that flow through the city. It would be combined with a nice orange/red brick colour to match the roofing that spans across the city. The kits would be accented with an off-white or grey, to mark the bricks that make up many of the building and bridges in the city.
